Parts Town’s Mobile Optimized Website – A Realtime Adventure
A few years ago, when smartphones were new and no one had a mobile site, I tried to do my taxes on my iPhone. How tedious! All that zooming in and zooming out to enter text in fields! “There’s got to be a better way,” I told myself. And there was, it turned out, but it wouldn’t come along until later.
The age of the mobile device is upon us, and in keeping with the times, many designers have developed mobile versions of their sites with an emphasis on making them easy to read and use from tablets and smartphones. This is really excellent, and I cheer every time I see a website has been adjusted in this way.
Now Parts Town has set the bar for the restaurant parts industry once again by creating the first mobile site in the business. As I have done previously, I’d like to take you on a walk-through. This is so easy to use!
10:55 – I load the site by typing “partstown.com” into my iPhone’s web browser. It comes up instantly. Yes! I hate waiting for things to load, don’t you?
10:56 – Searching for a part. I can’t think of a part number off the top of my head, so I’ll just type in “Scotsman DCE33 pump.” If you don’t know your part number, you can always just enter whatever information you do have. Partstown.com will understand.
10:57 – The site comes up with part number SCA30625-001. It also shows a picture of the pump and informs me that it’s in stock and sells for $254.07. Scotsman technical expert Tom Doell confirms that this is the correct pump for a model DCE33 Scotsman machine. Success!
10:59 – I decide to order and tap my index finger against the description of the pump. The site takes me to the checkout process.
11:00 – I am offered a chance to log in to my existing account, create a new account, or check out as a guest. I’ll be a guest today. While creating an account is not required, I do recommend it for anyone who’s going to use our site more than once. Entering your address is pretty quick, but not having to enter it next time is even quicker!
11:03 – I finish typing in all my information – name, address, payment info – and click the button to finalize my order. I’m given a confirmation number. That number tells me that my order has been sent to the customer service team. I wonder if they got it?
11:05 – My talented coworker, Pierre Ramirez, brings the printed out order to my desk. “Someone’s placing orders in your name,” he tells me. I graciously thank him for not entering the order. I don’t actually need a Scotsman water pump.
But you might! And this pump, along with the rest of our half-million plus selection of parts, is so easy to get. If I can order a part from my phone without knowing a part number, while writing a blog, in only ten minutes, imagine how quick and easy it will be for you!
Try Parts Town’s mobile site – available for iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and tablets – today. You’ll be glad you did!
