How to Clean a Hobart Convection Oven

Whether it’s daily or routinely, cleaning and maintenance help keep your unit in top shape. Below are easy steps for how to clean a Hobart convection oven.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Soft cloths

  • Warm water

  • Soap or mild detergent

  • Scouring powder

  • Sponge

Daily Cleaning Instructions for HEC & HGC Convection Ovens

Follow the steps below to clean the oven on a daily basis.

  • Step 1. Let the oven cool down – Before you begin cleaning, make sure the oven and its parts are no longer hot. The unit should be cool to touch.

  • Step 2. Turn off power – Disconnect electrical power to the oven by turning off the power switch and unplugging the power cord.

  • Step 3. Wipe down the exterior – Using a camp soft cloth, clean the exterior of the oven. If there is stuck on grease or residue, proceed to the routine cleaning instructions below.

  • Step 4. Clean the interior – In a bucket, mix warm water with soap or mild detergent. Use a soft cloth to scrub the porcelain interior. When you’re finished scrubbing, rinse the interior and dry with clean cloth.

Routine Cleaning Instructions for HEC & HGC Convection Ovens

Below are instructions for thorough, routine cleanings. These should occur at least every 2-4 weeks or when necessary.

  • Step 1. Create a cleaner – To remove grease stains or stuck-on food, you’ll need something stronger than soap and water. Scouring powder can be applied to stainless steel without damaging the oven’s exterior. Mix warm water and the powder to create a paste.

  • Step 2. Remove grease spots from exterior – Apply the paste to the exterior using a non-abrasive sponge. Scrub the stainless steel surface by going with the “grain” of the polish lines.

  • Step 3. Remove heat tint from exterior – Heat tint is used to describe dark spots caused by oxidation. Use the same paste to remove those spots. Apply using a non-abrasive sponge, and scrub by going with the “grain” of the polish lines.

  • Step 4. Rinse and dry the exterior – When you’re finished, use clean water to rinse the exterior. Dry the oven off using a clean, soft cloth.

Additional Maintenance for HEC & HGC Convection Ovens

You should conduct the following maintenance at least once a year. Always turn the power off and unplug the cord from the wall outlet during maintenance.

  • Lubricate the door mechanism – Use mineral oil to lubricate the door mechanism. This will help extend the life of the parts, including the springs and screws.

  • Clean the flue – When the oven is cool, check the flue for any obstructions. If you notice any blockages, clean them out.

  • Replace broken lamps – Remove the oven racks by pulling them forward and lifting them up and out. Once the racks are out, remove the right rack support by lifting up. Then, unscrew the glass dome from the light body and replace the light bulb. Reassemble when completed.
