How to Clean a Commercial Stand Mixer

Stand mixers are a staple in every commercial kitchen. Since they’re typically used to mix messy or sticky ingredients, they can become very dirty, very quickly. The more diligent you can be in wiping down the equipment after every use, the easier it will be to keep it clean and working correctly for the long run. This guide will show you how to clean a commercial stand mixer routinely.

Why Do You Need to Clean a Commercial Stand Mixer?

Cleaning a stand mixer isn’t difficult, but you have to be patient to ensure that you get encrusted debris out of every nook and cranny. Be sure to pay attention to all of the areas of the machine including all of the knobs, levers, under the head and in the ventilation slots. Keeping a clean mixer means ensuring a longer life for a piece of equipment that comes in contact with food that dry on and in the appliance and affect its performance.

Commercial Stand Mixer Cleaning Procedures

  • Step 1. Prep the unit – Before cleaning the appliance, be sure to unplug the unit. Never spray or hose down the appliance and always use caution when using any liquid to clean the surface area. Using a damp cloth will help to minimize the chances of any liquid entering the appliance.

  • Step 2. Remove attachments – Take apart all of the attachments, shields and mixing bowls and clean these parts separately in hot soapy water. Be sure to dry these pieces before you store them.

  • Step 3. Wipe down the exterior surfaces – Be diligent in wiping down all exterior surfaces of the appliance after each use with a damp cloth. You can also use a small brush with a mild cleaner to get into the hard-to-reach areas.

  • Step 4. Clean the shaft carefully – Don’t forget to clean the shaft, under the motor head and also inside the attachment hub. You can tilt back the motor head to clean underneath it and down the shaft with a microfiber cloth.

  • Step 5. Clean the interior – To clean inside the machine, you can remove the hub plate and wipe inside. Once dry, replace the hub plate securely.

  • Step 6. Remove debris from ventilation shaft – This is also a good time to remove debris from the ventilation shaft with a small brush or appliance vacuum.

  • Step 7. Clean the bowl cradle – Don’t forget about the bowl cradle. A lot of dirt, grime and grease can gather here so it needs to be wiped down regularly.

  • Step 8. Clean underneath the mixer – Also, check the underneath of the mixer by laying it on its side to wipe off any extra residue or food particles. When you set it up again on its base, be sure to inspect the entire machine to be sure that dust and grime have not collected on any other parts or edges on the appliance.

  • Step 9. Wipe down the base – Last, but not least, wipe down the entire appliance using a soft, dry towel so it is ready for its next use. If you store it in a cabinet or away from the countertops, it will be less likely to build up residue before it is ready to use again.
