Who doesn’t love a frosty treat? If you have a Spaceman ice cream machine in your commercial kitchen or restaurant, chances are it’s probably pretty popular. That’s why it’s so important to keep your ice cream machine running smoothly during a shift. If an issue arises on your Spaceman ice cream unit, you’ll have to troubleshoot it pretty quickly; if you’re encountering such issues, follow our troubleshooting guide to get your machine back up and running as quick as possible.

This guide is for Spaceman ice cream machine models 6210, 6220, 6228H, 6228AH, 6235H, 6235AH, 6250H, 6250AH, 6265H, 6378H and 6378AH.

Problem: Hopper isn’t Cold Enough


What’s the Cause?



  • Warm product was added recently – Let the hopper’s temperature stabilize by waiting at least an hour after adding new mixture.

  • Hopper’s temperature setting is too high – Adjust the hopper temperature warmer per your user manual’s instructions.

  • The temperature offsets need adjustment – Contact an authorized technician to remedy this issue.


Problem: Hopper is Freezing


What’s the Cause?




  • Inadequate mix in the hopper – Make sure the hopper is at least half full

  • Hopper’s temperature setting is too low – Adjust the hopper temperature warmer per your user manual’s instructions


Problem: Frozen Product is Too Soft


What’s the Cause?



  • Machine isn’t cleaned or lubricated adequately – Clean and lubricate your machine daily.

  • Inadequate mix in the hopper – Make sure that the hopper is at least half full.

  • Improper mixing of product – Follow the manufacturer’s directions for mixing product. Make sure you’re using correct mix ratios.

  • Machine doesn’t have proper ventilation – Make sure that there’s at least 6 inches of clearance on all sides of machine.

  • Incorrect viscosity adjustment – Raise the viscosity setting per your user manual’s requirements.


Problem: STOP 1—Low Temp Protect


What’s the Cause?



  • Inadequate mix in the hopper – Make sure the hopper is at least half full.

  • Improper mixing of product – Follow the manufacturer’s directions for mixing product. Make sure you’re using correct mix ratios

  • Air tube is dirty or not installed correctly – Clean the air tube and ensure proper orientation.

  • Incorrect viscosity adjustment setting – Lower the viscosity setting per your user manual’s requirements.

  • Product is being drawn too quickly – Make sure the air tube isn’t clogged, and allow the machine 2-3 seconds between servings.


Problem: STOP 2—Motor Overload


What’s the Cause?



  • Viscosity adjustment setting is incorrect – Lower the viscosity setting per your user manual’s requirements.

  • Inadequate mix in the hopper – Make sure the hopper is at least half full.

  • Improper mixing or priming of product – Follow the manufacturer’s directions for mixing product, and be sure that you’re using correct mix ratios

  • Air tube isn’t installed correctly – Clean the air tube and ensure proper orientation.

  • Product is being dispensed too quickly/improper priming – Make sure the air tube isn’t clogged, and allow the machine 2-3 seconds between servings. Also, double-check that there isn’t too much air in the cylinder during priming or during daily opening procedures.


Problem: STOP 4—Temperature


What’s the Cause?



  • Temperature probe is malfunctioning – Have the temperature probe replaced by an authorized technician.


Problem: STOP 6—Motor Amp


What’s the Cause?



  • Power board is malfunctioning – Have the power board replaced by an authorized technician.


Problem: Ice Cream Machine is Making Noise


What’s the Cause?



  • Improper assembly – Stop the machine and drain all product from the machine with the power off. Clean and inspect parts.

  • Wearable parts need replacement – Have wearable parts and scraper blades replaced at least once every 3 months by an authorized technician.

  • Internal cleaning or maintenance is needed – Contact OEM support or an authorized technician for assistance.

  • Damaged internal parts – Inspect parts for damage and to ensure proper assembly. Have them replace as needed by an authorized technician.


Problem: Product Leaks Excessively into Internal Drip Tray


What’s the Cause?



  • Improper lubrication of the drive shaft gasket – Use OEM-recommended food-grade lubricant, and add it inside the drive shaft gasket during assembly. Refer to your owner’s manual for proper assembly instructions.




  • Missing, damaged or improperly installed drive shaft gasket – Have the drive shaft gasket replaced every 1-3 months by an authorized technician.


Problem: Product Leaks Excessively from Dispensing Door Spout


What’s the Cause?



  • Improper lubrication of the draw valve and draw valve O-rings – Use OEM-recommended food-grade lubricant when assembling draw valves. Refer to your owner’s manual for proper assembly instructions.

  • Broken, cracked or worn draw valve O-rings – Have the O-rings every 1-3 months by an authorized technician.


Problem: Ice Cream Machine Shuts Down Automatically


What’s the Cause?



  • The cylinders are freezing-up – This is commonly due to the viscosity being set too high for the selected product. Reset the machine and lower the viscosity as suggested by your user’s manual. Follow the manual’s recommendations and directions on restarting the machine.
