As most foodservice trends go, the traditional cup of joe has changed over time. A wide variety of cafes and restaurants are starting to add an eclectic mix of coffee drinks to their menus from different parts of the globe. If you need help adding different types of coffee at your restaurant or cafe, here are some varieties from around the world to consider.<\/p>\n<h2>North America<\/h2>\n<p>Every coffee shop has these basic drink options for customers to choose from. Try variations of these popular drinks at your cafe or restaurant.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Traditional Brewed Coffee &#8211;<\/strong> Also known as drip coffee, brewed coffee combines ground beans with slowly filtered hot water that can be served hot or iced. When served black, it doesn\u2019t include sugar, milk and\/or flavorings.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Espresso &#8211;<\/strong> An espresso is the base from which all other coffee drinks are made. It is made by forcing nearly boiling water under pressure through ground coffee. This is different from American coffee that is made through steeping or a percolator.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Americano &#8211;<\/strong> An Americano is an espresso with extra water added after brewing finishes. The brewing method for coffee is, of course, different from espresso. However, taking an espresso and adding hot water will generally get the same effect.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Latte &#8211;<\/strong> A latte features a small layer of frothed milk over espresso. To prevent the layer of milk from being accidentally mixed into the espresso, most recipes recommend pouring the steamed, liquid milk on the espresso while holding a spoon.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Cappuccino &#8211; <\/strong>The nuances of milk steaming and frothing are relevant here. Cappuccino is a third espresso, a third steamed milk and a third frothed milk.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Caf\u00e9 de Olla &#8211; <\/strong>This beverage is a traditional Mexican coffee that is simmered with a cinnamon stick and served with piloncillo (a solid cone or block of unrefined cane sugar). It is served in a clay mug which is believed to bring out the coffee\u2019s flavor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5950\" src=\"https:\/\/www.partstown.com\/about-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/4-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Types of Coffee from Around the World for Your Menu-Flat White\" width=\"810\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.partstown.com\/about-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.partstown.com\/about-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/4-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.partstown.com\/about-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/4-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.partstown.com\/about-us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/4-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 810px) 100vw, 810px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Europe<\/h2>\n<h3>Greece\/Turkey<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Turk Kahvesi (Turkish Coffee) &#8211; <\/strong>Referred to as Turkish or Greek coffee, Turk Kahvesi is made when extra-fine grounds are mixed into water and then simmered. Sometimes, sugar is included. This cup has a signature dark foam, and is denser than Americano. This beverage also is unfiltered since it\u2019s intended to be enjoyed with the grounds.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Greek Frappe &#8211; <\/strong>Invented in 1957 by a Nescaf\u00e9 representative, this version of iced coffee is made with instant coffee, sugar and a small amount of water which is blended or shaken into a foam. Then, ice and cold water are added with milk as an option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Italy<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Espresso Romano &#8211;<\/strong> This form of espresso may have a teaspoon of sugar and is served with a lemon slice. Its origin is disputed. One legend says that it was served to American soldiers in post-WWII Italy to combat the bitterness in espresso, but another legend cites that adding lemon was meant to help clean teeth. Either way, the name stuck.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Spain<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Caf\u00e9 Bombon &#8211; <\/strong>This sweet drink from Spain has equal amounts of espresso and sweetened condensed milk. This combination makes a thick, sugary concoction that might mask a strong coffee flavor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>France<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Caf\u00e9 au Lait &#8211; <\/strong>Caf\u00e9 au Lait literally means \u201ccoffee and milk\u201d in French. It\u2019s comparable to a latte but with coffee instead of espresso but brewed coffee with frothed or scalded milk. The milk is either served directly in the cup or on the side, depending on the establishment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Germany<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Weiner Melange &#8211; <\/strong>Known as Wein to Austrians and Germans, this Vienna coffee is a special twist on cappuccino. It mixes espresso and steamed milk and is topped with either frothed milk or whipped cream.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Ireland<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Irish Coffee &#8211; <\/strong>Irish coffee is often served as a dessert cocktail. Then, an egg-based cream, made by heating and mixing yolks, is added.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>C\u00e0 Ph\u00ea &#8211; <\/strong>Also from Vietnam, this drip coffee is partially a product of French colonialism. Using a pour-over style filter called a phin, hot water is poured over the filter and drips directly into a cup. It may be enjoyed hot or cold. Many people drink the strong brew with sweetened condensed milk because fresh milk wasn\u2019t widely available.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Indian Filter Coffee &#8211; <\/strong>Madras kaapi is brewed using a stainless steel coffee filter similar to a phin into a matching lower tumbler. Another unique aspect of Indian filter coffee is the mix of coffee beans and chicory root. The extra fine grounds result in a very strong brew, one that is even stronger than espresso.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Yuanyang &#8211; <\/strong>This Hong Kong favorite is three parts coffee and seven parts Hong Kong milk tea, which is a mixture of black tea and evaporated or condensed milk. Also called kopi cham in Malaysia, this type of coffee may be enjoyed hot or iced.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Africa<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Ethiopian Coffee &#8211; <\/strong>It would be unreasonable to include a list of coffee drinks and exclude the place where coffee first grew and was discovered. More than just a process to make a beverage, Ethiopians make a ceremony out of coffee. Green coffee beans are roasted in a pan over an open flame and ground using a mortar and pestle before brewing in a clay pot. The grounds are typically brewed two or three times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Australia\/New Zealand<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Flat White &#8211; <\/strong>This Australian and New Zealander favorite is comparable to a latte with less milk and more espresso.
