WDCG Hot Case Series Troubleshooting

Problem: Case isn’t working or turning on, but clear pilot light is NOT lit

  • Cause—No power to unit
  • Solution—Check circuit breaker or fuses

Problem: Case isn’t working or turning on, but clear pilot light IS lit

  • Cause
  1. Power switch is off
  2. Control Safety Interlock was engaged due to a well temperature probe reaching a preset value, shutting off power
  • Solution
  1. Reset power switch
  2. Temperature probe failed; temperature probes aren’t connected to control properly; well heating elements aren’t connected to control properly

Problem: Inadequate holding temperature

  • Cause
  1. Food pans and case haven’t been preheated
  2. Food produced loaded in case is below 160 F
  3. One or more heating elements aren’t operational
  • Solution
  1. Preheat according to operator’s manual instructions
  2. Check temperature before loading food product in case
  3. Follow troubleshooting tips below

Problem: Individual heating element isn’t heating

  • Cause
  1. Loose wire/bad connection
  2. Faulty heating element
  3. Faulty output on control board
  • Solution
  1. Have inspected and repaired
  2. Have replaced
  3. Have replaced

Problem: Control displays “PL#” and beeps every second (the # indicates number problem well)

  • Cause—Probe is low or shortened. Measured temperature < 40° F / 4° C
  • Solution—Have temperature probe replaced for specified well

Problem: Control displays “PH#” and beeps every second (the # indicates number problem well)

  • Cause—Probe is high, open. Measure temperature > 550° F / 288° C
  • Solution—Have temperature probe replaced for specified well

Problem: Control displays “TL#” and beeps every second (the # indicates number problem well)

  • Cause—Temperature is low, and well probe temperature is more than 25° F / -4° C below set point
  • Solution—Loose wire, faulty heating element and/or failed controller. Have replaced.

Problem: Control displays “TH#” and beeps every second (the # indicates number problem well)

  • Cause—Temperature is high, and well probe is more than 40° F / 4° C above set point
  • Solution—Loose wire, faulty heating element and/or failed controller. Have replaced.

Problem: Touchscreen isn’t displaying properly

  • Causes
  1. Communication cable is damaged
  2. Faulty control touchscreen display
  3. Faulty control I/O board
  • Solution
  1. Have cable replaced
  2. Have control touchscreen replaced
  3. Have control I/O board replaced

Problem: Light bulb(s) don’t turn on when unit is powered on

  • Causes
  1. Faulty light bulb(s)
  2. Blown fuse
  3. Faulty ballast
  • Solutions
  1. Replace light bulb(s)
  2. Replace fuse
  3. Have ballast replaced

WDC, TSW, TCW, SSW and CSW Troubleshooting

Problem: Electrical issues

  • Cause
  1. No power to unit
  2. Power switch is off
  • Solution
  1. Check circuit breaker and fuses. Contact authorized service tech if problem persists.
  2. Reset power switch

Problem: No heat

  • Cause
  1. Power switch is off
  2. Heating element is defective
  3. Thermostat is defective
  4. Bad connection or loose wire
  • Solution
  1. Reset power switch
  2. Contact authorized service tech
  3. Contact authorized service tech
  4. Contact authorized service tech

Problem: Inadequate holding temperature

  • Cause
  1. Food pans and case haven’t been preheated
  2. Heating element(s) or thermostat(s) aren’t functioning properly
  3. Loose wire or bad connection
  • Solution
  1. Preheat according to operator’s manual instructions
  2. Contact authorized service tech
  3. Contact authorized service tech
