How to Use a Hamilton Beach Commercial Coffee Maker

A cup of coffee is a popular way to start the work day. A Hamilton Beach Commercial Coffee Maker is the essential part of commercial cafes or kitchens that will brew up large amounts of coffee. Below we have a guide on how to use and make coffee with both the D450 and D500 machines. Make sure to follow the best use practices by cleaning the machines before first use.
D450 Maker
Check out the simple steps below to learn how to use a D450 Coffee Maker.
- Step 1. Set filter in basket - Place a large, cupcake style disposable filter into the brew basket.
- Step 2. Scoop in coffee grounds - Add one level tablespoon of coffee per cup into the filter. Close the brew basket, making sure it is fully closed.
- Step 3. Adding water - Fill the carafe with your desired amount of cold tap water. Pour the carafe water into the reservoir.
- Step 4. Set carafe on hot plate - With the lid attached, place the carafe on the Keep-Hot plate. For models with Brew Selector, rotate knob to desired strength.
- Step 5. Turn on the machine - Turn the switch on. When finished brewing, turn the switch off and unplug the machine.
D500 Maker
Follow the steps below to start using a D500 Maker. Be sure not to overfill the coffee urn and do not plug in the coffee urn when there is no water or liquid inside.
- Step 1. Remove the cover - Grab the cover knob and turn counterclockwise until the locking tabs completely clear the handles on each side of the body, then lift up. Take out the basket, spreader, and tube assembly.
- Step 2. Add coffee to basket - Wet the basket and add regular or percolator grind coffee to the basket. Use a standard dry measure cup and tablespoon to measure out your grind coffee.
- Step 3. Place basket on pump tube - Check that the spring is on the pump tube, place the basket on it and then cover with the spreader. While holding onto the pump tube, lower it into the coffee urn until the bottom of the pump tube is properly seated in the heat well in the center.
- Step 4. Cover the coffee urn - Put the cover on the body of the coffee urn, having the locking tabs at the front and back of the urn.
- Step 5. Engage the locking tabs - Holding the knob, turn the cover clockwise until the locking tabs are fully engaged inside the handles on both sides of the coffee urn.
- Step 6. Plug in the machine - Plug the coffee urn into an outlet. The red light will turn on and coffee will start to brew. When the brewing cycle is complete, the green light will turn on and the coffee urn will automatically switch to the Keep Warm cycle.
- NOTE: If brewed coffee is to be kept warm for a long period of time, the basket, spreader, and pump tube should be removed as soon as brewing is complete. Use an oven mitt to remove these pieces, as they will be hot.
- Step 7. Unplug the machine - When finished using, unplug the machine and allow the coffee urn to cool before washing.
