A Well-Oiled Hobart Machine Will Keep You Cookin'

What would your day be like without your Hobart food prep equipment? It’s hard to even imagine. Since your equipment takes care of you, you need to take care of it. Don’t worry. You don’t need to talk to it or take it out to dinner. Simple, routine maintenance is all that's required. Regular lubrication and periodic deep cleaning will ensure your equipment is ready for every breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Before you start, get yourself a Hobart OEM-specified oil kit right here at Parts Town. The Hobart 00-913102-00259 Lubrication Kit features food-grade oil designed specifically for your Hobart equipment. That’s NSF H1 registered food grade if you’d like to get technical about it.

Now that you have your Hobart oil kit, here are some helpful hints for maintaining your Hobart slicers and mixers. For more information on preventative maintenance, see our articles on how to clean a Hobart mixer and slicer.

However You Slice It— Lubricating Hobart Slicers

It’s important these Hobart slicer components are well and frequently lubricated to ensure peak performance. Follow the instructions below to lubricate your Hobart slicers.

This guide applies to HS Series slicers such as HS6, HS6N, HS8, HS8N, HS7, HS7N, HS-1R, HS7n-2R, HS9 and HS9N models.

How to Lubricate the Carriage Slide Rod

Lubricate the carriage slide rod once a month or if you find moving parts are hard to maneuver.

  • Step 1. Apply oil to the carriage slide rod  – First, prepare the bottle for use by pulling out the telescoping tube. Next, squeeze out 4-5 drops of lubricating oil onto each side of the carriage transport.
  • Step 2. Slide the carriage tray back and forth – To ensure the carriage slide rod is well dispersed, slide the carriage tray back and forth a few times

How to Lubricate the Meat Grip Slide Rod

Clean and lubricate the meat grip rod daily. Here’s how you do it:

  • Step 1. Clean the meat grip – First, wipe down and clean the meat grip slide rod and dry it thoroughly before moving on to the next step.
  • Step 2. Apply the oil – Squeeze a few drops of Lubriplate onto both sides of the rod.
  • Step 3. Slide the meat grip back and forth – To ensure the lubricant is well distributed across the entire length of the rod, move it back and forth a few times.

Lubricating Slicer Accessories

Always lubricate slicer accessories after cleaning and sanitizing.

  • Pro tip: Hobart HS 2000 and 3000 series slicers have an oil reservoir, so the slicer can be lubricated while in use for smooth functionality for longer periods of time.

Get in the Mix—Lubricating Hobart Mixers

Hobart mixers also need to be well and frequently lubricated to maintain performance and prevent damage. Pay special attention to lubricating the slideways and planetary seal as well as size-specific instructions,

This guide applies to Hobart Legacy+ mixers such as the HL120, HL200, HL200C, HL300, HL300C, HL400 and HL400C models.

Lubricating the Slidways

You’ll need to first fully lower the bowl support to reach the slideways located just beneath the splash guard. You’ll need to do this about two to three times a year.

  • Lubricating 12-QT & 20-QT mixers – To lubricate the bowl pad area and bowl support on each slideway of the 12 and 20-quart mixers, you’ll first need to unscrew the apron.
  • Lubricating 20-QT & 40-QT mixers – Apply a thin coat of Lubriplate to the bowl pad area and bowl support on each slideway.
    • Note: Use Lubriplate 630AA to lubricate your Hobart mixer.

Lubricating the Planetary Seal

If your Hobart mixer is squeaking, it’s time to lubricate the planetary seal. To do this, apply a little mineral oil under the lip of the seal.

Lubricating the Agitator Shaft

Be sure to apply a thin coat of mineral oil to the agitator shaft to keep your floor mixer running smoothly.

Lubricating Mixer Accessories

Don’t forget to lubricate mixer accessories after cleaning and sanitizing every time. It may be necessary to lubricate the surface of the bowl with vegetable oil or shortening when using a mixer scraper attachment to prevent it from becoming grippy.
