Different Types of Pizza Pans

No matter if you prefer a crunchy, thin crust or a deep dish pizza, there’s a specific pan that’s best for cooking it. Learn more about each variety to find out which is the best pan for pizza:

  • Pizza Screens & Disks - These are the most common type of pizza pans. Pizza screens will help your pizza cook faster. The heat more easily transfers through the mesh to the pizza dough, making for a crispy crust.
  • Pizza Stones - Pizza stones also create crispy crusts as the stone absorbs the moisture from the dough. This type of pan mimics the cooking process for stone oven pizzas.
  • Deep Dish Pizza Pans - When compared to regular pans, deep dish pans have higher side walls and can be made from aluminum, non-stick and tin-plated stainless steel. They can also be round or square for a fun-shaped pizza.
  • Cast Iron Pizza Pans - This pan is more versatile than the other options as it can be used on the grill, in the oven, on the stove or even under a broiler. The edges are high enough to hold the crust and provide an even bake.
  • Cutter/CAR Pizza Pan - With a forgiving shape, it’s easy to use rolled or sheeted pizza dough for your pizza. These cutter pizza pans help hold up the edges of the crust.
  • Regular (Coupe) Pizza Pan - For extra durability, these pans are made from aluminum or hard coat anodized aluminum. This makes them perfect for commercial ovens. With these, you can cook, slice and serve your pizza pie on the same pan.
  • Wide Rim Pizza Pan - Wide rim pizza pans are most often used for presentation. You’ll have extra room to handle the pan with ease.

Types of Pizza Tools

Along with the proper pan, pizza tools are important. Here are a different types of tools you’ll need when making and serving the perfect pizza:

  • Bench Scraper - Using this tool will help you get those bits of dough sticking to the counter when you roll out your crust.
  • Non-Stick Pizza Peel - Using a pizza peel made from non-stick materials will help you seamlessly remove your pizza from the oven and to the pan for slicing.
  • Pizza Paddle - Pizza paddles are typically made from wood and are also used to remove pizzas from the oven.
  • Pizza Cutter - There are plenty of different pizza cutters available from non-slip grip wheels to the original black handle pizza cutter. When slicing your pizzas, make sure you have a cutter that can handle anything from a thin crust to a deep dish.
