Arcoaire Furnace Troubleshooting - Man Looking in HVAC Air Vent - Troubleshooting Guide

As the temperature drops, heating your home or small business is crucial. Arcoaire has a wide selection of Ion, Quiet Comfort and Performance Series furnaces designed to make any space comfortable. If you run into an issue every now and then, we’re here to help. This guide walks you through Arcoaire furnace troubleshooting steps for popular condensing and non-condensing gas units.

Poor Airflow

If there is insufficient airflow in the furnace, check for the issues below.

  • Dirty air filter – Clean the air filter and surrounding cavity. If you notice any damage or a substantial buildup of dust and dirt, replace the filter.
  • Obstructed air grilles – Check if either the return-air or supply-air grilles are blocked. If so, open them or remove any obstruction.

If poor airflow persists after correcting either of these issues, contact an authorized technician to resolve the problem.

Not Working or Staring – Condensing Gas Unit Checklist

The following is for standard and ultra-low NOx condensing gas furnace models. If it isn’t running, follow the step-by-step diagnostics below. Move to the next step if the unit still isn’t starting.

  1. Check the thermostat – See if the thermostat is at the proper temperature. It should be above room temperature and in HEAT mode.
  2. Check the fuses and circuit breakers – Make sure the electrical power switch is in the ON position.
  3. Check the manual shutoff valve – See if the manual gas supply pipe valve leading to the furnace is open. It should be in the closed position.

NOTE: Turn off electric power to the furnace before proceeding with troubleshooting

  1. Check the control switch on the gas valve – If it’s in the OFF position, flip it to ON and conduct the proper startup instructions to reset the switch. These steps are available in the operator’s manual.
  2. Check the manual reset rollout switch – This switch is located in the burner box. The switch shuts off the furnace if the unit is overheating or around high-temperature conditions. Reset the switch by pushing the switch on the button. If it trips again, turn off the furnace and call an authorized technician for assistance.
  3. Check the vent terminations – See if there are any obstructions.

If the furnace still won’t work or start properly after running through this checklist, contact an authorized technician to resolve the problem.

Not Working or Staring – Non-Condensing Gas Unit Checklist

The following is for non-condensing gas furnace models. If it isn’t running, follow the step-by-step diagnostics below. Move to the next step if the unit still isn’t starting.

  1. Check the thermostat – See if the thermostat is at the proper temperature. It should be above room temperature and in HEAT mode.
  2. Check electrical supply – Make sure the electrical power switch is in the ON position, and the blower access door is in place. Also, see if the fuse on the furnace control has blown or a circuit breaker tripped.
  3. Check the manual shutoff valve – See if the manual gas supply pipe leading to the furnace is open (lever will point in the same direction of the pipe). It should be in the closed position (lever should be at a right angle to the pipe).

NOTE: Turn off electric power to the furnace and remove the access door before proceeding with troubleshooting

  1. Check the control switch on the gas valve – If it’s in the OFF position, make sure it hasn’t been shut down for safety reasons. If it hasn’t, flip the switch to ON. Conduct the proper startup instructions to restart the switch. These steps are available in the operator’s manual.
  2. Check the manual reset limit switches – The manual switches are located on the ends of the burner enclosure. They shut off the furnace if the unit is overheating or around high-temperature conditions. Reset the switches by pushing the switch on the button. If it trips again, turn off the furnace and call an authorized technician for assistance.

If the furnace still won’t work or start properly after running through this checklist, contact an authorized technician to resolve the problem.
