Carrier Furnace Filter Replacement

Carrier Furnace Filter Replacement

Take a deep breath of clean air by making sure you are replacing your furnace filter on schedule. A Carrier furnace keeps rooms warm and cozy when the temperature drops and regularly changed Carrier filters are important for air quality. Changing your filter is a quick fix that we have listed below to help you get better air.

How Often Should I Change the Filter?

On average, the filter should be changed every 3 months if your furnace has a 1 inch filter. Other filters that are thicker can wait up to 6 months between changes. You should check what kind of filter your furnace currently uses to determine how often you should change the filter. Always go with the manufacturer recommended filter size when you are changing out the filter.

Changing the Filter

  • Step 1. Turn off the furnace - You first need to have the furnace off before starting any maintenance. The easiest way to turn off the furnace is using the switch located on the thermostat and turning it to the “OFF” position.
  • Step 2. Open the compartment - The furnace filter is most likely found in the blower compartment. Remove the compartment panel or door to access the old filter.
  • Step 3. Remove the old filter - Carefully remove the dirty, old filter. It will most likely have a lot of dust and build-up, so you want to make sure you don’t loosen the dust. Pay attention to the direction the airflow arrows are pointing.
  • Step 4. Unpackage the new filter - Take the brand new filter out of the packaging. Make sure you have bought the correct type of filter for your model.
  • Step 5. Install the new filter - Check the airflow arrow on your new filter. The arrow points in the direction of airflow and you will want to install it with the arrow pointing towards the blower and away from the return air or “cold air”. Just place the filter into the space you took the old filter from.
  • Step 6. Close the panel - Once the filter is in you can close up the blower compartment and turn the furnace back on.
