Carter-Hoffmann Plate Heater Cleaning & Maintenance
A Carter-Hoffmann Plate Heater allows you to provide warmed plateware to banquet, buffet and cafeteria diners to help maintain the heat of freshly-served foods. But, to make sure they operate smoothly each time, they have to be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. Below are simple-to-follow instructions on how to properly clean and maintain your Carter-Hoffmann Plate Heater unit.
Cleaning Instructions
- Step 1 - Turn off and unplug the cabinet from the outlet. Allow the unit to cool down completely.
- Step 2 - Remove the dispenser tubes by pulling them up and out, then place them down on a clean work surface. Wipe down the tubes with a damp cloth and let them dry completely.
- Step 3 - Once dry, reinstall the dispenser tubes, then clean the exterior of the cabinet with a non-abrasive, mild soap or detergent and warm water mixture. If needed, you can use a commercial stainless steel cleaner.
- NOTE—Make sure any cleaner used is non-abrasive and safe to use on stainless steel. Using abrasive or harsh cleaners and detergents can cause damage to the stainless steel surface.
- Step 4 - Once cleaned, make sure to thoroughly rinse surfaces with large amounts of clean water. Wipe off all excess water and residue from horizontal surfaces on corners and near edges.
Periodic Maintenance
- Step 1 - Check the caster wheels to see if they can move freely and brake properly. Also, make sure the casters are free of debris that can impede their movement. Clean, lubricate and replace as needed.
- Step 2 - Check the plug blades for damage and have them replaced if needed. Next, check over the power cord for any damage, especially the sheathing. The sheathing should extend all the way into the interior of the unit. Discontinue use of the plate heater unit if wires are exposed on the outside of the cabinet.
- Step 3 - Inspect the perimeter bumpers to see if there’s been any damage to the vinyl, or if it’s lifting from its place. You can pry the vinyl back into place gently with a screwdriver should it become dislodged.
- Step 4 - Make sure the tension springs are dispensing properly by filling the cavity with bases or plates and testing their function. If the plates/bases don’t index properly and the unit isn’t overloaded, have the springs adjusted or replaced.
