Crown Verity Grill Troubleshooting
Known for their expert craftsmanship and high performance, Crown Verity grills exceed industry norms for quality and longevity. Although issues with these units are rare, everyday wear and tear can eventually lead to malfunctions. If you’re experiencing problems with your equipment, this Crown Verity grill troubleshooting guide will help you identify and resolve the issues quickly and easily.
This information is applicable to a variety of mobile gas charbroilers, including the MCB30, MCB36, MCB48, MCB60 and MCB72.
Burners Won’t Light
- Unit is out of propane - Replace the empty gas cylinder with a new one to resume operation.
- Cylinder valve is turned off - Turn on the cylinder valve.
- Regulator assembly is loose - Make sure the regulator assembly is firmly connected to the cylinder valve.
- Gas piping system is full of air - Bleed the system, wait five minutes and then try lighting the unit again.
- Gastight seal inside the cylinder valve is compromised - Install a new hose and regulator assembly.
Flames Blow Out On Low
- Charbroiler wasn’t preheated sufficiently - Preheat the unit for 10-15 minutes before use.
- Venturi isn’t positioned properly - Contact an authorized technician to correct the issue.
- Venturi and/or burner holes are blocked - Schedule a service appointment with a licensed technician.
- Air shutter on venturi is defective - Reach out to an authorized technician for assistance.
Burners Aren’t Hot Enough
- Flow control device is activated (the burner valve was opened before the cylinder valve) - Light the unit properly. See our article on how to light a Crown Verity grill for more detailed instructions.
- Flow control device is activated (due to a leak in the system) - Call a licensed technician to remedy the issue.
- Burners are dirty - Clean the burners.
Flashback (Flames Come Out Around the Control Panel)
- Venturis and orifices are obstructed - Shut off the gas at the cylinder valve and allow the unit to cool.

Grease Is Dripping From Bottom
- Grease tray isn’t installed - Install the grease tray.
- Unit isn’t level - Level the machine.
- Grease buildup is excessive - Clean the charbroiler.
Unit Doesn’t Stay Lit
- Cylinder pressure has dropped below operating limit due to a freeze-up (caused by prolonged “full open” use) - Replace the cylinder with a new, full one.
Flare-Ups Are Excessive
- Overload of fatty meat is leading to heavy grease buildup - Clean the grill.
- Excessive grease buildup in the grease tray(s) - Add water to the grease tray(s) to reduce flare-ups.
