Picture - Globe Gas Countertop Charbroiler Cleaning

Globe gas countertop charbroilers are known for offering exceptional versatility in a space-saving design. Since these units are sure to become invaluable pieces of food prep equipment wherever they’re used, this Globe gas countertop charbroiler cleaning guide will help you keep your machine working properly, safely and hygienically for as long as possible.

These instructions are applicable to a variety of models, such as the GCB15G-CR, GCB24G-CR, GCB36G-SR and GCB48G-RK.

Supplies

The following procedures should be performed daily or as needed. Remember to avoid abrasive materials like steel wool or harsh chemicals such as ammonia since these can damage the unit and shorten its working life.

Pre-Cleaning Procedure

Be sure to give the unit enough time to cool off once before beginning the cleaning procedure.

  • Step 1. Warm the unit (if needed) - Make sure the charbroiler is on for at least 45 minutes before shutting off the unit. Although the machine needs to cool down before cleaning, some residual heat will make it easier to scrape away food residues.
  • Step 2. Turn off the burners - Make sure all the burners are turned to the “OFF” position.
  • Step 3. Close the main gas valve - Cut the gas supply to the unit and extinguish the pilot by setting the main gas valve to “CLOSED/OFF”.
  • Step 4. Cool the machine for 20 minutes - Allow the unit to cool down for 20 minutes before continuing.

Grates, Char Rock Grid and Radiants (Depending on the Model)

Minimize the risk of burns by wearing insulated gloves when handling the grates, grids or radiants.

  • Step 1. Brush the grates - Use a wire brush to clean the top and underside of the grates.
  • Step 2. Scrape the channels - Remove fat and grease buildup in the grate channels with a scraper.
  • Step 3. Remove the grates - Take off the grates and set them aside.
  • Step 4. Clean the radiants - Brush the top surface of the radiants.

Main Body

Don’t pressure wash any part of the unit since this may cause damage. In addition, remember that most components–except for the catch tray–should never be cleaned by immersing them in water; instead, wipe them with soapy water and a soft cloth.

  • Step 1. Cool for 1 hour (if needed) - Wait a total of 1 hour after turning off the unit before cleaning the body.
  • Step 2. Maintain the stainless steel - Clean the stainless steel with warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth, then rinse it with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.
  • Step 3. Clean the controls - Wipe down the controls and knobs with a clean cloth.
  • Step 4. Degrease the char grate back support brace - Take out the brace and then wash it with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth. For instructions on how to uninstall the back support brace and then return it to the unit, see the owner’s manual.
  • Step 5. Wash the catch tray - Remove the catch tray and discard any grease, debris or crumbs, then clean it with warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth. Be sure to rinse and then dry the catch tray, too.
  • Step 6. Clean the burner air shutter openings - Brush away any residues in the main burner ports.

Resuming Normal Operation

Make sure the unit is clean and dry before use.

  • Step 1. Reinstall the grates - Return the grates to the unit.
  • Step 2. Open the main gas valve - Supply the charbroiler with gas by setting the main gas valve to “ON/OPEN”.
  • Step 3. Light the pilot - Hold an ignition source, such as a match or lighter, at the pilot in order to light it.
  • Step 4. Use the unit normally - You may now resume normal operations of the unit.
