Hatco Toaster Operating Instructions

Known for their speed and efficiency, Hatco toasters are a staple in busy foodservice environments. If you want to make the most of your equipment, follow these Hatco toaster operating instructions to ensure proper use and peak productivity.
This guide is for Toast-Qwik® conveyor toasters, such as TQ-10 low-volume machines, as well as TQ-400, TQ-800, TQ-1200 and TQ-1800 high-volume models.
Preparing for Operation
- Step 1. Plug in the toaster - Connect the unit to power by plugging the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Step 2. Power on the machine (high-volume models only) - Turn on high-volume units by turning the Power I/O switch to the on (I) position. Note that TQ-10 toasters don’t have Power I/O switches; instead, the units power on when heat sources are selected using the Heat Control I/O switches (see Step 3b).
- Step 3a. Adjust heat control knobs (high-volume models only) - Rotate the top and bottom Heat Control knobs clockwise to the highest setting for two-sided toasting. For one-sided toasting, turn the top knob clockwise to the highest setting and the bottom knob counterclockwise to the lowest setting.
- Step 3b. Select heat sources (TQ-10 only) - Enable top and bottom toasting by turning both top and bottom Heat I/O switches to the on (I) position. For top-only toasting, flip the top switch to the on (I) position and the bottom control to the off (O) position; for bottom-only heating, move the top switch to the off (O) position and the bottom control to the on (I) position.
- Step 4. Set the color control - Put the Color Control on the lowest setting possible by turning the knob fully counterclockwise.
- Step 5. Warm up the toaster - Let the toaster heat for 15-20 minutes before continuing.
Using the Machine
- Step 1. Run a test slice - Place a piece of food product on the conveyor at the entrance and allow it to pass through the toaster. Once it exits, check the toast level and adjust the Color Control knob as needed: turn counterclockwise for lighter results or clockwise for darker results.
- Step 2. Allow temperature to readjust - Let the unit warm up or cool down for an additional 15-20 minutes before continuing.
- Step 3. Toast food product - Put food product on the conveyor at the entrance and let it pass through the toaster. Once the product finishes toasting, it drops automatically onto the discharge tray.
- Step 4. Retrieve the toasted product - Remove the food product from the discharge tray.
Shutting Down the Unit
- Step 1. Turn off the heat sources - Shut off the heat by rotating the top and bottom Heat Control knobs on high-volume models fully counterclockwise to the lowest setting. For TQ-10 machines, turn both the top and bottom Heat Control I/O switches to the off (O) position.
- Step 2. Power off the machine (high-volume models only) – Turn the Power I/O switch on high-volume units to the off (O) position. Note that TQ-10 machines don’t have a dedicated power switch because they power down automatically when both Heat Control I/O switches are in the off (O) position.
- Step 3. Unplug the toaster - Cut power to the machine by unplugging the power cord from the electrical outlet.
- Step 4. Clean the unit - Keep the machine safe and sanitary by following the proper steps for cleaning a Hatco toaster after use.
