Fan(s) will not operate


  • Main switch is open
  • Fuse is blown
  • Defective motor
  • Defective timer or defrost thermostat
  • Unit is in defrost cycle
  • Coil doesn’t get cold enough to reset thermostat


  • Close the switch
  • Replace the fuses
  • Replace the motor
  • Replace defective part
  • Wait for the cycle to finish
  • Adjust the fan delay settings


Room temperature too high


  • Thermostat is set too high
  • Superheat is too high
  • Low refrigerant
  • Coil is iced up
  • Unit too close to doors
  • Heavy air filtration


  • Adjust the thermostat
  • Adjust the thermal expansion valve
  • Add refrigerant
  • Manually defrost the coil and check the controls for malfunctions
  • Relocate the unit or add strip curtain to doorway
  • Seal unwanted openings


Ice accumulating on ceiling

around evaporator and/or on

fan guards venturi or blades


  • Defrost duration is too long
  • Fan delay isn’t delaying after defrost
  • Defrost thermostat or timer is defective
  • Too many defrosts


  • Adjust the defrost termination thermostat
  • Defective defrost thermostat or not adjusted correctly
  • Replace defective component
  • Reduce number of defrosts


Coil not clearing frost during defrost cycle


  • Coil temperature isn’t getting above freezing point during defrost
  • Not enough defrost cycles per day
  • Defrost cycle is too short
  • Defective timer or defrost timer


  • Check the heater operation
  • Adjust the timer for more cycles
  • Adjust the defrost thermostat or timer for longer cycle
  • Replace the defective part


Drain pan has ice accumulation


  • Defective heater
  • Unit isn’t pitched properly
  • Drain line plugged
  • Defective drain line heater
  • Defective timer or thermostat


  • Replace the heater
  • Check and adjust as needed
  • Clean the drain line
  • Replace the heater
  • Replace the defective part


Uneven coil frosting


  • Defective heater
  • Unit too close to doors
  • Defrost termination is set too low
  • Incorrect or missing distribution nozzle


  • Replace the heater
  • Relocate the evaporator
  • Adjust the defrost termination setting higher
  • Add or replace nozzle with correct size
