Hobart LXI Dishwasher Cleaning & Reset Instructions

Hobart dishwashers are some of the most durable and efficient pieces of warewashing equipment in the industry. The LXi series has stood the test of time and continues to be one of most popular undercounter options in commercial kitchens.
To keep it running smoothly every day, proper maintenance and operation is key. Below are Hobart LXi dishwasher cleaning and reset instructions to help your unit stay in peak condition.
Daily Cleaning Instructions
Follow the cleaning procedure below at the end of each work day:
- Step 1. Turn the machine off – Start by pressing the OFF button on the control panel. The machine will drain. Once the display isn’t lit, open the door and clear out any debris or food remnants at the bottom of the tank.
- Step 2. Remove the rinse/wash arms and strainers – To remove the lower rinse, upper rinse and wash arms, start by unscrewing the thumb nut attached to each arm. Once the nut is removed, pull the arm off the shaft. Then, remove both the coarse and fine strainers.
- Step 3. Clean the rinse/wash arms and strainers – Take the items removed from the dishwasher and clean them thoroughly in a sink with warm water. Use a mild dish soap and soft cloth to help remove any stuck-on debris.
- Step 4. Wipe down the machine’s interior – Use a damp, soft cloth to wipe the interior of the dishwasher. Clean the rear and front water level probes located under the fine strainer using a non-metallic scouring pad.
- Step 5. Clean the exterior surfaces – Wipe the exterior with a damp, soft cloth. When cleaning the inside of the door, wipe the lip at the bottom of the door. For stuck-on debris or grease, use a stainless steel cleaner and soft cloth or brush. Never use steel wool.
- Step 6. Reinstall the rinse/wash arms and strainers – Once they’ve dried, reinstall the strainers and the lower rinse, upper rinse and wash arms inside the dishwasher. Start by reinstalling the lower wash arm by pushing it down on the shaft. Then place the lower rinse arm on the shaft and tightly fasten the thumb nut. Spin the arms to make sure they’re moving freely. Repeat this with the upper wash and rinse arms.
- Step 7. Clean the control keypad and display – Using a damp, soft cloth with mild cleaner, wipe down the control keypad and display. Never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads when cleaning this area.
- Step 8. Let the unit dry overnight – Leave the door open overnight to let the interior dry.
Priming Operation Reset Instructions
Priming operation is available on LXi models with chemical sensing. This feature automatically kicks in whenever the machine is turned on or a wash cycle starts. When a cleaning chemical is sensed in the machine, the indicator on the display turns off and the pump continues to prime for 20 seconds.
However, if chemicals aren’t sensed after three straight priming operations, a wrench and “empty chemical” icon will appear on the display and priming will be cancelled. The next time a wash cycle starts, the machine will beep and display a flashing wrench and “empty chemical” icon. This is designed to prevent priming operation in case the chemical sensors have malfunctioned.
First, check if the chemical bottles are empty. If they aren’t, contact an authorized Hobart technician for assistance. If they are, try resetting the machine by doing either of the following:
- Option 1. Press the WASH key again while the wrench and “empty chemical” icon flashing
- Option 2. Turn the machine off and wait about 10 seconds before turning it back on.
If neither solution works, contact an authorized Hobart technician to repair the issue.
