Hoshizaki Ice Machine Startup and Shutdown Instructions

No matter if you’re setting up a new unit or are looking to shut down the icemaker for the season, we can help! Using our Hoshizaki ice machine startup and shutdown instructions, you can get the process started with ease. This guide covers the startup and shutdown procedures specifically for Hoshizaki crescent cube ice makers.

How to Start Up a Hoshizaki Ice Machine

  • Step 1. Open the water supply line shut-off valve.
  • Step 2. Remove the front panel and disconnect the connector from the control box.
  • Step 3. Make sure the control switch on the control box is off, then plug the icemaker into the outlet.
  • Step 4. Move the control switch to the “ICE” position.
  • Step 5. Put the front panel back in place.
  • Step 6. Allow the icemaker to operate for at least five minutes to fill the water tank.
  • Step 7. Remove the front panel and move the service switch to the  “WASH” position, then move the control switch to the “SERVICE” position.
  • Step 8. Replace the front panel and allow the unit to run for five minutes.
  • Step 9. Remove the front panel and move the service switch to the “DRAIN” position.
  • Step 10. Replace the front panel and allow the ice maker to drain for two minutes.
  • Step 11. Remove the front panel and move the control switch to the “OFF” position. Then, unplug the unit.
  • Step 12. Disconnect the bin control connector.
  • Step 13. Clean the storage bin liner with a neutral cleaner and rinse thoroughly.
  • Step 14. Reconnect the bin control connector.
  • Step 15. Plug the unit back in and move the control switch to the “ICE” position to start the automatic ice making process.
  • Step 16. To ensure the bin control operations are working, press and hold the bin control’s actuator paddle during the first five minutes of the freeze cycle. The icemaker should shut down in about five seconds.
  • Step 17. Replace the bin cover.
  • Step 18. Reconnect the connector from the front of the panel to the control box and replace the front panel.
  • Step 19. On a water-cooled model, confirm the proper condenser drain outlet/return outlet temperatures.

How to Turn Off a Hoshizaki Ice Machine

  • Step 1. Remove the front panel.
  • Step 2. Move the main control switch to the “OFF” position.
  • Step 3. Replace the front panel.
  • Step 4. Unplug the unit.
