Hoshizaki Water Filter Replacement Instructions & Maintenance
To help ensure that your Hoshizaki produces clean and crystal clear ice, a water filtration system is a must. These water filters are important for your ice machine because they can trap harmful contaminants and mitigate limescale. In turn, a water filtration system can not only improve the quality of ice your unit produces, but also helps it run more efficiently. Needless to say, an important preventative maintenance task to perform is regularly checking and replacing the water filter on your Hoshizaki ice machine. Thankfully, the process is simple and fits right into your regular PM routine. Learn how to change the water filter on your Hoshizaki unit with the instructions below.
This guide is applicable for any Hoshizaki unit that uses 4HC-H water filters, or water filtration systems like the H9320-51, HOSH9320-52 and HOSH9320-53.
How to Change the Filter Cartridge
- Step 1—Shut off the unit’s power and the water inlet.
- Step 2—Open up the flushing valve to relieve pressure.
- Step 3—Hold the head firmly and push upward, then turn the cartridge to the left until it stops.
- Step 4—Pull the cartridge downward to remove it from the head.
- Step 5—Take the new filter and align the lug with the label. Hold the head firmly while inserting the new cartridge in an upwards motion.
- Step 6—Turn the new filter cartridge 90 degrees to the right until it stops turning.
- Step 7—If you have any additional filter cartridges, replace those by following Steps 3-6.
- Step 8—Open the flushing valve fully, then open the inlet water at full force for 5 minutes. This must be done for each new filter. After 5 minutes, close the flushing valve.
- Step 9—Turn the power back on for the unit.
How Often Should the Water Filter Be Changed?
Hoshizaki recommends that you should replace the filter every 6-12 months. This time frame is dependent on your water quality and your unit’s ice production rate. If your machine has multiple filters, make sure that they are all replaced at the same time.
How to Tell When It’s Time to Change the Filter
There are a few telltale signs to indicate when it’s time to change your Hoshizaki water filter cartridge. These signs include:
- Ice is foggy in appearance, odd-tasting and/or oddly-shaped
- Increased ice producing cycles
- Ice production stops completely
- The cartridge becomes excessively dirty
- Lack of proper water flow
