How to Clean a Frigidaire Dishwasher
These dishwashers have a few key components that are important to clean. The following steps will walk you through cleaning the outer door, inside of the dishwasher, filter, gasket and the overfill protector.
- Clean the outer door - Use warm soapy water and a rag or sponge to wash the outer door of the dishwasher.
- Rinse and dry the outer door - Use a damp rag to rinse off the outer door and then a clean, dry rag to dry it.
- Remove the racks - Open the dishwasher door and remove the lower and upper racks.
- Disassemble the filter assembly - Pull out the filter assembly from the bottom of the dishwasher and then take apart the assembly.
- Clean the filter parts - Take the parts to the sink and run them under warm water. While running them, use a fine bristle brush to remove any food waste from the filter.
- Reassemble the filter assembly - Put the assembly back together and reinstall in in the bottom of the dishwasher
- Clean the overfill protector - The overfill protector is found at the left, front corner of the tub. You can use dish soap and a rag or sponge to clean this.
- Rinse and dry the overfill protector - Use a damp rag to rinse it and then a clean, dry on to dry it off.
- Clean the interior - The interior is technically self cleaning. However it doesn’t hurt to give it a little bit of a wipe down with warm soapy water and a rag or sponge.
- Rinse and dry the interior - Use a damp rag to rinse off the interior and then a clean, dry rag to dry it.
- Clean the gasket - Take a damp rag and wipe the gasket clean. You can also use this time to inspect for damages.
- Dry the gasket - Dry it off with a dry, soft rag. Make sure to gently wipe it to avoid damaging the gasket.
- Clean the racks - You can clean the racks at the sink with soap and a rag or sponge.
- Rinse and dry the racks - Rinse the racks in the sink and then dry them with a rag.
- Reinstall the racks - Put the upper and lower racks back in the dishwasher.
Cleaning and Emptying the Glass Trap
The glass trap on a dishwasher is meant to catch pieces of broken glass, bones, pits and other large debris. It’s important to empty and clean this piece so it doesn’t become blocked. Here are the steps for maintaining this specific component:
- Remove the racks - Remove the upper and lower racks so you’re able to access the glass trap easily.
- Remove the glass trap and spray arm - To remove these you first want to rotate the glass trap’s handle 90 degrees clockwise while also pressing down on the center of the wash arm. Then grab the center of the spray arm and pull the spray arm and glass trap assembly out of the dishwasher.
- Empty the glass trap - Hold the assembly over a trash can and tip it to pour its contents out. Tap on the bottom to help loosen and remove any debris from it.
- Rinse out the glass trap - Take the assembly to the sink and rinse out any dirt or remaining debris from it.
- Reinstall the assembly - To put the spray arm and glass trap assembly back into the dishwasher, put the assembly back into place and press down on the arm at the center while also rotating the glass trap handle 90 degrees counterclockwise.
How to Clean Frigidaire Dishwasher With Vinegar
You can also use common household items to clean your dishwasher. One such item is vinegar. The following steps will walk you through how to clean a dishwasher with vinegar.

- Load the mug into the dishwasher - Place the mug with the vinegar into your dishwasher on the top rack and close the door.
- Run the dishwasher - Start your dishwasher and run a regular wash cycle on it. Be sure to use hot water with it.
- Let the cycle complete - Let the dishwasher finish running the wash cycle and then remove the mug.
- Check for particles - Check for any debris that is collected in the bottom by the filter. If there are, clean them with a damp, soapy rag.
