Hobart Potato Peeler Cleaning Instructions

Clean the potato peeler after every use and before it has a chance to dry. This will prevent the build-up of hard-to-remove food residue, protect the metal from corrosion and make cleaning easier and more efficient. Learn how to clean a Hobart potato peeler in 10 simple steps:

Prepping the Hobart Potato Peeler

  • Step 1. Turn off and unplug the unit – Water and electricity never mix well, so don’t forget to turn off and unplug the power cord on your Hobart potato peeler to ensure your safety throughout the cleaning process.

  • Step 2. Rinse the interior – Turn on the water and rinse out the interior of the hopper. Once finished, turn off the water.

Removing Hobart Potato Peeler Parts for Cleaning

  • Step 3. Remove the hopper – Rotate the hopper counterclockwise to lift and remove.

  • Step 4. Remove the abrasive disc – The abrasive disc isn’t fastened to the shaft, so you’ll be able to effortlessly pull it out.

  • Note: Sometimes, the abrasive disc gets stuck on the shaft. If this happens, you can unfasten the hex head screw on top of the hub and replace it with a longer one. Screw it in until the disc loosens enough for you to remove it.

  • Step 5. Remove the lexan/peeler liner – Remove the lexan liner with soap, water and a nonabrasive brush. Put it aside to air dry.

  • Step 6. Remove the peel trap – Some potato peeler models have a peel trap drawer. Go ahead and remove it now.

  • Step 7. Clean the hopper potato peeler parts – Clean the hopper top, abrasive disc and the housing underneath the disc, the lexan/peeler liner and peel trap in the sink with warm water, a nonabrasive brush and mild soap, rinsing thoroughly and letting air dry when done.

  • Step 8. Clean the hopper interior – Turn on the water again and clean the hopper interior with mild soap and a brush. Don’t forget to rinse any leftover cleaning residues before shutting off the water.

Reassembling the Hobart Potato Peeler

  • Step 9. Reassemble the potato peeler – In the reverse order in which you took the potato peeler apart, reassemble it, starting with the peel trap door then the lexan liner and abrasive disc before finishing with the hopper and lid.

  • Step 10. Open the discharge chute – The last step in our how to clean a Hobart potato peeler guide is to leave the discharge chute open. This will prevent mold, mildew and bacteria growth, extending the life of the door seal.
