  • Lemon juice (optional)
  • Vinegar (optional)
  • Baking soda (optional)

How to Clean Blendtec Blender Jar & Blades

Cleaning your blender jar and blades only takes a little water, a drop of soap and less than a minute of your time. Learn how to clean your Blendtec blender jar and blades below:

  • Step 1. Unplug the blender – For safety, it’s important you unplug the blender and detach the accessories before cleaning. This is in case you accidentally press a button while the lid is off or when your fingers are near the blades.
  • Step 2. Add about 1 cup of water to the jar – Fill the blender jar with about 1 cup of water or until the blades are fully submerged.
  • Step 3. Add 1 drop of dish soap to the jar – Next, add no more than 1 small drop of dish soap to the jar. The high velocity of the blades will kick up a lot more sudsy bubbles than if you were to hand wash the blender container, so it’s important not to go wild with the soap here.
  • Step 4. Put the lid on the jar – Cap the jar with its lid, taking care that all 4 sides are evenly aligned and tightly sealed.
  • Step 5. Install the jar on the blender base – If you haven’t already, pop the blender jar onto its base and keep your hand firmly on the lid while the blender is in use.
  • Step 6. Run the blender – With your hand firmly on the lid, press the pulse button or the clean cycle if your blender has it for 5-10 seconds.
  • Step 7. Rinse with warm water – After blending the soap and water mixture, thoroughly rinse the jar in the sink with warm water.
  • Step 8. Let air dry – All you have to do is place the jar upside down on a drying mat or dish rack. Once done, make sure to store it in an upright position. And that’s how you clean a Blendtec Blender!

How to Clean Blendtec Blender Base & Accessories

You should wash your blender base immediately after use to preserve its functionality and the appearance of its exterior. Here’s how you clean a Blendtec blender base:

  • Step 1. Unplug the unit – Safety first! Make sure the power cord is unplugged before wiping it down so you don’t accidentally press any buttons and injure yourself in the process.
  • Step 2. Wipe down the base with warm water and soap – With a clean, soft cloth, use warm water and mild dish soap to clean off the base.
    • Note: Never use any abrasive cloths or cleaning solutions that could scratch or break down the plastic.
  • Step 3. Clean the Blendtec accessories – Now, wipe down the chopper adapter, whisk adapter and blending bar with a clean, damp cloth or place them in the top rack of the dishwasher. If you’re using the Blendtec GO accessory, don’t forget to clean the micronizer and its gasket after removing the latter from the former.
  • Step 4. Wipe the base dry – Last but not least, wipe the blender base dry with a clean cloth.

Removing Stains & Odors from Blendtec Blender

Several effective cleaning methods can nullify odors, prevent flavor contamination and bust tough stains.

Warning: Never mix bleach with acids, aka vinegar or lemon juice. This will create a dangerous chemical reaction in the form of chlorine gas, which is very harmful to one’s health. You’ll also want to avoid mixing baking soda with lemon juice or vinegar because they will neutralize each other, negating their stain-removing properties.

Cleaning with Bleach

  • Step 1. Fill the blender with hot water – Pour in hot water to just below the fill line.
  • Step 2. Pour in 1-2 teaspoons of liquid chlorine bleach – Measure out 1-2 teaspoons of liquid chlorine bleach and add it to the blender container.
  • Step 3. Let the solution stand for 5 minutes – Set a timer for 5 minutes. It’s important not to let the cleaning solutions sit longer than that, as it could penetrate the lower gasket and damage the motor or other components.
  • Step 4. Thoroughly rinse with warm water – Thoroughly rinse the jar with warm water to remove all bleach residue.
  • Step 5. Let air dry – Place the jar upside down on a drying mat or dish rack. Once done, make sure to store it in an upright position.

Cleaning with Lemon Juice, Baking Soda OR Vinegar

  • Step 1. Fill the blender with hot water – Pour in hot water to just below the fill line.
  • Step 2. Add cleaning product – Add lemon juice, baking soda OR vinegar to the jar. Do NOT combine cleaning products.
    • Lemon Juice – Squeeze 1 lemon or add roughly 2-3 tbsp of lemon juice to the container.
    • Baking Soda – Measure 2-3 tbsp of baking soda and pour it into the water.
    • Vinegar – Add 2-3 tbsp of vinegar to the jar.
  • Step 3. Run the blender – Run the blender for 5-10 seconds, pressing the pulse button or cleaning cycle if your blender has it.
  • Step 4. Scrub the interior – Pour out the water and wipe down the interior with a soft cloth or sponge.
    • Note: Never use an abrasive cloth or sponge because it could scratch the plastic.
  • Step 5. Rinse with warm water – Thoroughly rinse the jar with warm water to remove all cleaning solution residue.
  • Step 6. Let air dry – Place the jar upside down on a drying mat or dish rack. Once done, make sure to store it in an upright position.

How Often Should I Clean My Blendtec Blender?

Clean your blender immediately after every use to prevent buildup of stains and odors. It’s important not to let the contents of your blender sit overnight or use your jar as a storage container for other liquids or foods, as they can seep through the lower gasket and damage the motor and components.

Can I Put My Blendtec Blender in the Dishwasher?

Yes, you can put your blender jar, chopper blade, chopper bowl, blending cup and whisk in the dishwasher on the top rack. However, the blender base, blending bar, chopper adapter and whisk adapter are not dishwasher safe and should only be hand-washed with mild soap and water.

That said, using the dishwasher may be the easiest way to clean the blender, but it’s still a good idea to use the method recommended above to extend its lifespan. The jar materials are only safe in temperatures up to 176℉ (80℃). Chemicals and heat from the detergents and dishwasher can cause warping and discoloration if careful attention is not paid to labels and cycle temperatures.

Can I Put Boiling Water in Blendtec?

No, do not put boiling water in your Blendtec blender. Although you’re not wrong in thinking boiling water normally achieves an extra squeaky clean, in this circumstance, that’s not the case.

The temperature of boiling water is 212℉ (100℃), and the Blendtec jar is only rated up to 176℉ (80℃). Because of that, adding boiling water to your blender bottle will cause warping, cracking, discoloration and other signs of material distress. It will also void your warranty.
