How to Clean Frigidaire Washing Machine

Homeowner cleaning the gasket on their front load washer - How to clean Frigidaire washing machine

Washing machines are kind of like pet fish. They don’t require a lot of attention, but there’s still a little bit of maintenance involved to keep them alive and happy – or, in this case, aesthetically and aromatically pleasing.

It doesn’t take long to keep your equipment looking pristine and washing at its best. So whether you own a top load or front load washer, Parts Town can teach you how to clean a Frigidaire washing machine’s interior, exterior and tub in a couple of simple steps.

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Mild soap
  • Water
  • Chlorine liquid bleach
  • Tide washing machine cleaner
  • Cleaning cloths or sponge

Interior Cleaning Instructions

Cleaning the interior of your Frigidaire washing machine is as easy as wiping down a countertop. All you need is a sponge, some mild detergent and water. Here’s how you do it:

  • Step 1. Remove clothing immediately after each wash – If you don’t want to spend an age and a half with the iron to set the wrinkles straight or wear nose plugs in the laundry room, make sure to unload the washer immediately after its cycle.
  • Step 2. Dry the above, below and around the lid – After you’ve unloaded the washing machine, use a clean cloth to dry the lid and surrounding areas. Let the tub air dry for a couple of hours before closing the lid.
  • Step 3. Unplug the washing machine – You should always unplug the washing machine before cleaning the interior.
  • Step 4. Wash the agitator and tub with a cleaner – Whether the tub is dirty from fabric dye, residue or just plain old dirt, you can use a nonabrasive household cleaner and a sponge. The detergent, bleach and fabric softener compartments are non removable, so you’ll have to clean these with a damp cloth.
  • Step 5. Rinse the tub – Afterward, just make sure to rinse the tub with water. And that’s how you clean the interior of a Frigidaire washing machine!

Exterior Cleaning Instructions

You should wipe down the top and sides of your Frigidaire washing machine after each wash to remove any linen, laundry detergent or dust that has gathered during loading.

  • Step 1. Wipe down the top and sides – Clean your Frigidaire washing machine’s exterior after the wash cycle is complete. Take a damp cloth and wipe down the top and sides. Then, dry with a clean cloth.
  • Step 2. Clean the cabinet – With mild soap and water, clean the washing machine’s cabinet. For tougher stains, you may use a diluted bleach solution of one part liquid chlorine bleach to eight parts water. Just make sure you thoroughly rinse and dry your machine afterward. For glue residues, you can remove them with warm water and mild detergent or, alternatively, dab with the sticky side of tape.
    • Note: Never use harsh or abrasive cleaners on your washing machine, as this could damage the exterior.

How Do You Clean the Tub on a Frigidaire Top Load Washer?

To prevent the inside of your washing machine from smelling like a freshly fertilized cornfield, leave the lid open for a couple of hours after every wash so it can air out. But what if it’s too late, and it already smells like there’s something already growing inside the tub? Not to worry, in this section, we’ll walk you through how to set your Frigidaire washing machine to self-clean:

  • Step 1. Remove all clothing from the washer – Unfortunately, you can’t kill two birds with one stone here and clean your clothes at the same time as you clean the tub, as this could damage your washing machine.
  • Step 2. Add cleaner – You can either add one cup of liquid chlorine bleach or one pouch of Tide Washing Machine Cleaner to the tub, but not both.
    • Note: Do not mix any household cleaners with bleach, as this could cause dangerous chemical reactions that might result in injury or even death.
  • Step 3. Select and start Tub Clean Cycle – After removing clothing from the tub and adding either one of the approved cleaners, select and start the Tub Clean Cycle on your washing machine’s panel settings.
    • Note: Run a Tub Clean Cycle at least once every month to ensure your washing machine stays smelling as fresh as the laundry that comes out of it.
  • Step 4. Select Rinse & Spin Cycle – Once the Tub Clean Cycle has done its thing, go ahead and follow it up with a Rinse & Spin Cycle to wash away any residual cleaning products before starting your next load.
