How to Install an InSinkErator Food Waste Disposer

Many homes have a garbage disposal in the sink, but if you’re replacing an old one or simply upgrading to a brand new InSinkErator disposal, you’ll want to know how to install it properly. Use our helpful guide on how to install an InSinkErator food waste disposer so you can get things back up and running.

Installing the Drain

  • Step 1. Remove the fasteners and flanges from the bottom of the garbage disposal drain.
  • Step 2. Place the gasket on the drain and place it into the sink.
  • Step 3. Attach the fastening system below the sink to keep the drain in place.
  • Step 4. Slide the fiber gasket and backup flange into place and attach the mounting ring.
  • Step 5. Tighten the fastener screws.

Prepping the InSinkErator Food Waste Disposer

  • Step 1. Install the rubber gasket into the tailpipe on the garbage disposal.
  • Step 2. Slide the metal fastening flange onto the discharge tube.
  • Step 3. Place the flared end of the tube onto the rubber gasket of the tailpipe.
  • Step 4. Fasten the metal flange to the disposal.

Installing the InSinkErator Food Waste Disposer

  • Step 1. Line up the mounting tabs of the disposal with the ones on the mounting ring.
  • Step 2. Rotate the mounting ring until all three lock into place.
  • Step 3. Attach the garbage disposal drain to the P trap.
  • Step 4. Run a bit of water down the drain to ensure there are no leaks.
  • Step 5. Plug in the unit.
