Lennox Logo

Your Lennox home furnace is a reliable source of comfort and warmth. That’s why it can be so distressing if it starts acting uncharacteristically. In many of those instances, a reset may be necessary to get things back up and running. If it’s come to that, we’ve got a step-by-step guide on how to reset your Lennox furnace that's no muss, no fuss.

Lennox Furnace Reset Instructions

  • Step 1—Switch off the power to your furnace and at the breaker. Usually your furnace is labeled at your breaker box.
  • Step 2—Locate and remove the control panel of your furnace. This will be located in different areas depending on the type of furnace you have; downflow models will have their control panels at the bottom of the unit, and upflow panels will have theirs at the top.
  • Step 3—Find the raised reset button or switch next to the ignition control box. This will sometimes be called the “Limit Control” switch.
  • Step 4—Press and hold the button for 10 seconds, then release to reset.
  • Step 5—Replace the control panel cover back onto the furnace and restore power to your unit.

In the event that you are still experiencing issues after resetting your furnace, call an authorized HVAC technician to assess and alleviate the situation.

Where is the Furnace Reset Button Located?

In many cases, the reset button can be found near the ignition control box. It’s usually a raised button that’s colored either red or yellow.

When Should I Reset My Lennox Furnace?

There are a couple of common reasons why your Lennox furnace would reset or require a reset, including:

  • No fuel in system
  • Obstructed or closed valves
  • Dirty air filter or recently-changed air filter
  • Dirty flame sensor
  • Overheating

If you experience any of these common issues with your furnace, a reset may be in order.
