If you’ve tried troubleshooting your LG washing machine and nothing seems to work, your unit might need a reset. If you’re looking for instructions, this guide on how to reset an LG washing machine explains the process from start to finish.

These directions are for front load and top load models, such as the WM3900HBA and WT7305CW, respectively.

  • Step 1. Power down the unit - Turn off the washer by pressing the power button.
  • Step 2. Unplug the washer or turn off the circuit breaker - Cut power to the unit by either unplugging the power cord or switching off the corresponding circuit breaker at the electrical panel.
  • Step 3. Press the start/hold button for 5 seconds - Push and hold the start/hold button for 5 seconds, then release.
  • Step 4. Wait 1 minute - Allow the machine’s internal systems to fully reset by waiting 1 minute before restoring power to the unit.
  • Step 5. Reconnect the power - Restore the electrical connection by either plugging in the power cord or flipping the circuit breaker for the unit to the on position.
  • Step 6. Open and close the door 6-12 times (if needed) - Reset the door manually by opening and closing it 6-12 times if trying to clear door lock errors.
  • Step 7. Power on the washer - Press the power button to turn the unit on.
  • Step 8. Resume normal use - You may now use the unit normally. If issues still persist, see our LG washing machine troubleshooting guide or contact an authorized technician for further assistance.
