Eureka grinders combine innovative technology, unique design and intuitive controls, making them valuable additions to homes and cafés. Whether you're brewing espresso or other coffee styles, this guide on how to set up a Eureka grinder walks you through the process step by step so you can get your unit up and running quickly and efficiently.
These instructions are for residential Mignon series models, such as the Specialita and Silenzio, as well as commercial Atom series units, including the Atom W 75.
Supplies
- Screwdriver
- Coffee Beans
- Small Bowl
- Kitchen Scale
Readying the Unit
- Step 1. Place the machine on a flat surface - Position the unit on a countertop or table near an electrical outlet.
- Step 2. Attach the hopper - Insert the hopper into the machine body and open the hopper gate. If needed, use a screwdriver to tighten the screw.
- Step 3. Power on the machine - Plug the power cord into an outlet and press the power button to turn on the unit.
Adjusting the Grind
- Step 1. Place a small bowl under the chute - Put a small bowl under the spout to catch coffee grounds.
- Step 2. Grind a small amount of beans - Add about 0.5OZ (15G) of coffee beans into the hopper and press the single dose button to grind them. For Atom units, you can also press and hold the manual button until all the beans are ground.
- Step 3. Evaluate the grinding level - Pour a small amount of grounds into your hand and check the texture. For espresso, the correct grind size is similar to that of table salt.
- Step 4. Adjust the grind level (if needed) - Turn the adjustment knob clockwise for a finer grind or counterclockwise for a coarser grind.
Preparing a Dose
- Step 1. Add beans to the hopper - Pour about 2-3OZ (50-75G) of coffee beans into the hopper.
- Step 2. Weigh the portafilter - Use a kitchen scale to weigh the portafilter, record the weight and then set it aside.
- Step 3. Hold the portafilter under the chute - Position the portafilter under the spout to prepare for grinding.
Dialing the Dose
- Step 1. Select single or double dose - Tap the icon with one coffee cup or two coffee cups to choose your dose size. Note that Silenzio machines only have a single dose option.
- Step 2. Grind a dose - Press the start button to grind a single or double dose. Take note of the grinding time in seconds.
- Step 3. Weigh the grounds - Return the portafilter to the kitchen scale and measure it again, this time with the coffee grounds.
- Step 4. Find the amount of grounds produced - Subtract the weight of the empty portafilter from the weight of the portafilter with grounds to determine the yield in a single or double dose.
- Step 5. Compare to your brew ratio - Consider how the amount of coffee grounds per dose compares to your coffee machine’s brew ratio requirements.
- Step 6. Adjust the grinding time as needed - Select the single or double dose button, then use the “+” or “–” icons to increase or decrease the grind time. The new time saves automatically.
- Step 7. Test the new grinding time - Add about 2-3OZ (50–75G) of beans to the hopper, hold the portafilter under the chute and repeat steps 1-6 to see how many grams of coffee grounds the new setting produces. Compare it to your brew ratio and adjust again if needed.
- Step 8. Use the unit normally - You may now begin normal operation of the machine.
