How to Set Up a Hobart Scale
Scales are amazing food preparation equipment and essential for bakeries, deli counters and butcher shops. Below is a guide on how to set up a Hobart scale and use its various modes. We also will help you through calibration steps for scales that might have been moved or need to be adjusted.
The following guide is made for Hobart HT series scales.
Scale Mode Setup
The HT series scales can be set up to operate in self-serve, manual, prepack, production entry or accumulate items mode. Start by touching the scale operation mode area to see the setup screen.
- Self-Service Mode - This mode is for consumers to use the scale. Users enter or search for the PLU, place the product on the scale and print the label. Touch the “Self-Service Operation” selection to enter this mode.
- Manual Mode - Manual mode is made for single transactions. The user places the product on the scale, enters a PLU and touches the print button to print the label. Touch the “Manual Operation” selection to enter this mode. A black dot should appear in the circle, and the word “MANUAL” will display.
- Prepack Mode - This mode is designed for multiple transactions. Users place the product on the scale, enter a PLU and the label automatically prints. Then, users can repeat this with more products with the same PLU. To use this mode, touch the “Prepack Operation” selection to enter this mode. A black dot should appear in the circle, and the word “PREPACK” will display.
- Item Entry Type - Item entry types are made for single transactions. The user places the product on the scale, enters a PLU and touches the print button to print the label. To set the item type, touch either “Normal,” “Accumulate Items'' or “Production Entry” and the selected box will be highlighted in blue. The accumulate and production entry is only used in the manual mode.
Calibration With Calibration Weight
Calibrating the scale might be necessary if it has been moved.
- Step 1. Remove switch cover - On the bottom of the scale, remove the calibration switch cover.
- Step 2. Turn unit on - Press the ON:OFF switch to turn the scale on.
- Step 3. Press calibration switch - Press the calibration switch while the scale is in the weighing mode. “CAL” will be displayed.
- Step 4. Re-Zero unit - Press the Re-Zero key, then “CAL0” will be displayed. Wait for the stable indicator “0” to be displayed, and then press the Re-Zero button again. “CALF” should be displayed after.
- Step 5. Calibrate unit - Place the calibration weight on the center of the pan. Wait for the stable indicator to be displayed. Press the Re-Zero key. “End” will be displayed, and the scale will automatically return to weighing mode.
