How to Use a Spaceman Ice Cream Machine
Whether you're running a restaurant, ice cream shop, cafeteria or concession stand, knowing how to use a Spaceman ice cream machine is essential for product quality, food safety and equipment longevity. This guide walks through the basic operating process, like adding and dispensing product to the machine. That way you can serve ice cream without any problem and ensure everyone gets a sweet treat.

How to Use a Spaceman Ice Cream Machine
Adding Product to the Machine
- Step 1. Check machine is sanitized - Verify the machine has been recently sanitized.
- Step 2. Prepare the ice cream mix - Thoroughly mix and prepare at least 2 gallons of product according to manufacturer instructions. The mix should be cool and smooth.
- Step 3. Place container under valve - Place a bucket or large container below the draw valve.
- Step 4. Add product to hopper - Remove the hopper lid and pour 0.25 gallons of product into the hopper.
- Step 5. Open draw handle - Open the draw handle (DOWN); sanitizer will start to flow out of the draw valve.
- Step 6. Close draw handle - Once sanitizer has been purged from the unit and a steady stream of product is flowing from the spout, close the draw handle (UP).
- Step 7. Add product to hopper - Pour the remaining product into the hopper.
- Step 8. Raise prime plug - Raise the prime plug on the top of the dispensing door until the flow is 100% product.
- Step 9. Lower prime plug - Plush the prime plug back down.
- Step 10. Install air tube - Make sure the air tube and cap are clean, then install them into the hopper.
- Step 11. Replace hopper lid - Replace the hopper lid back onto the unit. The product should be ready to freeze now.
Freeze Product
- Step 1. Check unit ready - Check that the cylinder is full of mixed product and primed.
- Step 2. Turn unit to freeze - Turn the power switch to the FREEZE position. The motor will start to agitate the product and the cooling system will begin freezing the product.
- Step 3. Wait for product to freeze - Wait about 10 minutes for the product to freeze. When the product reaches the set viscosity, it’s ready to be dispensed.
Dispensing Product
- Step 1. Open draw handle - Open the draw handle (DOWN) until the desired amount is dispensed.
- Step 2. Close draw handle - Close the draw handle (UP) when you’re finished dispensing.
