LG washing machines’ innovative design allows them to clean clothes and other fabrics quickly and thoroughly. If you want to make the most of your appliance, this guide on how to use an LG washing machine explains the process from start to finish so you can operate your unit as easily as possible while ensuring your laundry comes out perfectly clean every time.

This information is for a variety of units, such as the WM3900HBA front load washer, WT7305CW top load washer and others.

Before Starting the Cycle

  • Step 1. Sort items into loads - Separate fabrics by weight, color and degree of dirtiness, grouping similar items together into the same load. If necessary, wash multiple loads until all of your items are clean.
  • Step 2. Remove small, loose objects - Check pockets for small coins, garments for loose strings, pillow cases for broken zippers and sheets for excessive pet hair so that these small objects don’t damage the unit.
  • Step 3. Add cleaning products - Put detergent and other laundry chemicals in the dispenser drawer. If using single-use detergent packs, be sure to place them in the drum before loading the unit.
  • Step 4. Load items into the washer - Place garments and other fabrics to be washed into the unit. Be sure you don’t overload the machine so the drum can agitate the items thoroughly.

Setting the Wash Cycle

  • Step 1. Power on the unit - Turn on the unit by pressing the Power button.
  • Step 2. Choose a cycle - Spin the Cycle Selector Knob to select the desired cycle. For a Normal cycle, you can simply press the Start/Pause button.
  • Step 3. Adjust cycle settings (if desired) - If you want to change the default settings for a cycle, use the cycle modifier and option buttons to do so.
  • Step 4. Begin the cycle - Initiate the wash cycle by pressing the Start/Pause button. Be aware that if the Start/Pause button isn’t pressed within 60 seconds of selecting a cycle, the unit will shut itself off.

Finishing the Cycle

  • Step 1. Remove items as soon as possible - In order to minimize wrinkling, remove fabrics from the washer as soon as the cycle is complete.
  • Step 2. Check the door seal for small objects - Coins, clips and other foreign objects that were mixed in with garments can sometimes get stuck in the door seal. So, remember to check the seal for small items after each load.
  • Step 3. Power down the washer - Use the Power button to turn off the unit.

Important Notes

Sorting

  • Weight - Don’t combine heavy items like towels with light fabrics such as undergarments: this can cause excessive abrasion that can damage the more delicate fabrics.
  • Colors - Wash dark-colored and light-colored or white fabrics separately so that the lighter fabrics don’t become discolored
  • Dirtiness - Separate heavily-soiled items from lightly-soiled ones since washing them together can result in poor wash performance.

Loading

  • Combining large and small items - If washing large and small items together, place the larger items into the unit drum first. Also, make sure that large items aren’t more than half of the load so that the unit can better maintain balance.
  • Don’t overload the unit - While the washer can be fully loaded, the door or lid should still close securely.
  • Wash oversized items individually - Thick, bulky items like heavy blankets or comforters should be washed on their own.

Detergent

  • Use High-Efficiency (HE) detergents - Using detergents that aren’t high-efficiency may cause oversudsing, poor performance, error codes and unit damage.
  • Don’t use more than the recommended amount of detergent - Doing so may lead to oversudsing and detergent buildup that can cause unusual odors in the unit.
  • Avoid using multiple detergent pods - Adding multiple single-use detergent pods to a single load may result in oversudsing and reduced performance.
