What Do the Illuminated Lights on a Wells Universal Ventless Hood Mean?
The following directions for a Wells Universal Ventless Hood are courtesy of our friends at Wells Manufacturing.
During normal operation, the illuminated power switch will be the only light on the control panel that will be ON.
VCS Control Panel
INDICATOR LIGHT (GREEN) = Ventilator power on
When lit, this indicates that electrical power is available, and that the power switch (45) is turned ON.
INDICATOR LIGHT (AMBER) = Check filters
When lit, this indicates that one (or more) of the three filters is not in its proper position, or that an interlock switch (53) is out of adjustment.
INDICATOR LIGHT (AMBER) = Replace pre-filter
When lit, this indicates that the pre-filter is approaching the end of its service life. ALWAYS HAVE A SPARE PRE-FILTER ON HAND FOR REPLACEMENT.
INDICATOR LIGHT (AMBER) = Replace filter pack
When lit, this indicates that the filter pack is approaching the end of its service life. REPLACE FILTER PACK PROMPTLY!
INDICATOR LIGHT (RED) = Service required
Power to the cooking appliance will be de-energized whenever this RED indicator light is lit. When lit, the air flow is insufficient to meet the appliance's vapor-capture-level requirements. This indicates that either the pre-filter or filter pack is individually clogged (the individual indicator light may be lit), or that the airflow drop across both filters is critical. As a cost-saving measure, always change a dirty pre-filter first (when lights 47b and 47c are not lit, and right light 48 is ON).
WVU Control Panel
CHECK FILTERS LIGHT
If the CHECK FILTERS LIGHT illuminates, check the baffle filters, pre-filters and the HEPA air filters for proper installation.
REPLACE PRE-FILTERS LIGHT
If the REPLACE PRE-FILTERS LIGHT illuminates, replace the pre-filters.
REPLACE FILTER LIGHT
If the REPLACE FILTER LIGHT illuminates, replace the filter pack.
NOTE: The REPLACE FILTER LIGHT is a warning that the filter pack is nearing the end of its service life. The ventilator will continue to operate for a period of time after the REPLACE FILTER LIGHT turns ON to allow continued operation through a peak period. However, the filter pack must be replaced within a short time period or it will clog, disabling the ventilator and appliances.
SERVICE REQUIRED LIGHT
If the SERVICE REQUIRED LIGHT illuminates, the filter pack is restricted to the point of insufficient airflow for proper operation and the ventilator will shut down until the underlying clogged filter situation has been corrected. Replace the clogged item with a fresh filter to correct the condition. Reset the unit by turning the VENTILATOR POWER SWITCH to OFF, then back ON.
AIR CURTAIN SERVICE REQUIRED LIGHT
If the AIR CURTAIN SERVICE REQUIRED LIGHT illuminates, there is insufficient airflow for proper operation. Call an authorized Wells service agent.
A failure of incoming electric power will cause a shut down of the unit. Reset the unit by turning the VENTILATOR POWER SWITCH to OFF, then back to ON.
NOTE: The WVU72 unit will have more lights to indicate left/right filter.
