Lennox Heat Pump Troubleshooting
A heat pump is an incredible piece of HVAC equipment that can do both heating and cooling. Lennox happens to make great heat pumps for commercial purposes. However in the occasional instance your Lennox heat pump isn’t working quite right then these troubleshooting tips should help fix it.
Lennox Heat Pump Not Turning On
Whether you noticed the heat pump’s blower won’t start, the compressor won’t start or the unit just won’t turn on at all, the following issues could be what’s causing it:
- Thermostat set wrong - The thermostat needs to be set properly for the heat pump to work correctly. Start by checking if the thermostat settings are correct.
- Power failure - You could be having a power failure with the unit. Check the power supply to ensure there aren't issues with the power hook up to the unit.
- Blown fuse - You may have a blown fuse at the circuit breaker. Check there and try resetting it to remedy the issue.
- Faulty Wiring - There could be faulty wiring for the unit. This will require a technician to come out and service the equipment.
Lennox Heat Pump Not Heating or Cooling
If the heat pump is on then you probably expect it to heat or cool accordingly. In the situation that it isn’t though then you could be looking at any of the following issues:
- Fins dirty or blocked - Dirty fins can prevent a heat pump from effectively cooling. It’s important to practice preventative maintenance with HVAC equipment.
- Air filter is dirty - The air filter could also be dirty and prevent air from flowing. Thus restricting its ability to cool. Be sure to change the filter as needed.
- Interior is dirty - It’s also possible the general interior of the heat pump is dirty and creating a blockage thus impeding it from heating or cooling. Be sure to carefully clean the interior if there’s debris building up.
- Ductwork restricted - There could be a restriction somewhere in the ductwork. You’ll want to clear it up so cool or hot air can flow properly.
Lennox Heat Pump Has Ice Build Up
If you noticed ice forming you’ll want to identify where it is building up to determine what the issue is.
- Ice build up on the inside evaporator during cooling - The refrigerant charge is low and potentially has a leak.
- Ice build up on the condensing coil during heating - The defrost cycle isn’t working right.
Lennox Heat Pump Compressor Related Issues
You could run into a variety of different issues occurring with your heat pump’s compressor. Here are some of those issues and what could be causing them:
- Compressor cycles on overload - There are a few reasons why this issue may occur. You’ll want to inspect for the following problems such as faulty wiring, loose terminals or low voltage.
- Compressor is noisy - If a compressor is being noisy it could be not only annoying but also having an issue. It could be resulting from loose bolts, the oil level or a defective valve.
- Compressor is losing oil - If you notice the compressor is losing oil it could be a result of the refrigerant charge being low or low suction pressure.
- Refrigerant is flooding back to the compressor - Whether you notice the refrigerant is flooding back during the cooling or heating cycle, it needs to be remedied. You could be dealing with issues such as the refrigerant is overcharged or high head pressure.
