Mahlkönig Coffee Grinder Instructions

The Mahlkönig espresso grinder is a staple in any coffee shop, restaurant or commercial kitchen. With the ability to grind espresso beans quickly and efficiently, the Mahlkönig grinder is an important part of each daily shift. On top of being such an excellent worker, it’s also simple enough for anyone on your staff to use. Learn how to operate your Mahlkönig grinder with our in-depth instruction guide. 

This guide is applicable for E65S and E80S models.

How to Add Espresso Beans

  • Step 1—Take the lid off the bean hopper.
  • Step 2—Pour whole espresso beans into the hopper. Be sure to fill the hopper at least 1 cm/0.4 in. above the finger protection to help prevent dispensing fluctuations. 
  • Step 3—Place the lid back on the bean hopper.
  • Step 4—If needed, open the bean hopper by pulling the slider out.

How to Turn On the Grinder

  • Step 1—Plug in the unit to a power source.
  • Step 2—Switch on the grinder.

How to Set the Grinding Degree

  • Step 1—Release the lock on the grind adjuster if it is locked. To unlock, turn the grinding degree lock counterclockwise to the unlocked or open position.
  • Step 2—Move the grinding degree slider to the setting needed. Start on a coarser setting, then while the grinder is on, adjust the degree to a finer one if needed.
  • Step 3—If needed, fix the grind adjustment by turning the grinding degree lock clockwise to the locked or closed position.

How to Change the Grind Time Settings

  • Step 1—Choose your desired recipe by turning the controller.
  • Step 2—Press the lower button; the grinding time will then be highlighted.
  • Step 3—Turn the controller to set the grinding time.
  • Step 4—Press and release the controller to confirm the grinding time setting.

How to Grind Espresso Beans According to Recipe

  • Step 1—Turn the controller to the required recipe.
  • Step 2—Insert the portafilter between the intake and support until it touches the start button. The grinder will then start automatically and stop after the set amount of time for the recipe. 
  • Step 3—Take the portafilter out once the unit has stopped grinding completely.

  • Step 1—Insert the portafilter between the intake and support until it touches the start button. The grinder will then start automatically and stop after the set amount of time for the recipe. 
  • Step 2—Take the portafilter out to stop grinding completely.

How to Suspend Grinding (Break Function)

  • Step 1—Take the portafilter out while the unit is grinding to stop it completely.
  • Step 2—Reinstall the portafilter to continue grinding before the set abort time elapses. To fully stop the grinding process, press and release the controller once.

How to Change the Type of Espresso Beans—E65S Model

  • Step 1—Push the sliding valve to close the bean container.
  • Step 2—Grind the remaining beans until the grinder runs idle.
  • Step 3—Use a flathead screwdriver to release the locking screw on the bean container.
  • Step 4—Remove the bean container by turning it counterclockwise.
  • Step 5—Remove any leftover beans from the container.
  • Step 6—Remove any leftover beans from the container intake.
  • Step 7—Check to make sure that the rubber ring is properly inserted in the bean container intake and that it’s lying flat.
  • Step 8—Move the bean container onto the bean container intake, making sure that the nose of the bean container is positioned in the recess.
  • Step 9—Push the container down slightly into the intake, then rotate it counterclockwise to lock it in place.
  • Step 10—Use a flathead screwdriver to tighten the locking screw on the bean container.
  • Step 11—Pour the new beans into the container.
  • Step 12—Pull out the sliding valve to open the bean container.
  • Step 13—Remove any residue of the old espresso beans by grinding 2-3 shots of espresso. This will also warm up the machine to help avoid any fluctuations.

  • Step 1—Push the slider to close the bean container.
  • Step 2—Grind the remaining beans until the grinder runs idle.
  • Step 3—Remove the bean container by turning it counterclockwise.
  • Step 4—Remove any leftover beans from the container.
  • Step 5—Remove any leftover beans from the container intake.
  • Step 6—Move the bean container onto the bean container intake, making sure that the nose of the bean container is positioned in the recess.
  • Step 7—Push the container down slightly into the intake, then rotate it counterclockwise to lock it in place.
  • Step 8—Pour the new beans into the container.
  • Step 9—Pull out the sliding valve to open the bean container.
  • Step 10—Remove any residue of the old espresso beans by grinding 2-3 shots. This will also warm up the machine to help avoid any fluctuations.
