Montague Oven Troubleshooting
Nothing is worse than having a malfunctioning oven and no clue on what is wrong. Montague ovens are an essential tool that can keep a commercial kitchen running from dawn to dusk, so make sure you have the information that will help you navigate any issue. Below you will find some oven problems and possible causes to help you navigate your Montague oven troubleshooting.
HX Series Oven
If you need troubleshooting information on a Montague HX Series oven, check out the possible errors below.
Oven Controls Overheating
An overheating oven can be caused by any of the following:
- Top panel holes are covered
- Oven setting on curb without a 1” toe base or legs
- Poor draft in the flue
- Door seal is leaking
- Exhaust hood is not functioning
Oven Has Hot Spots
If the oven has hot spots or poor heat distribution:
- Gas input is too low
- Thermostat is out of calibration
- Fan is not turned on
- Draft in flue is either too high or too low
- Center of door has poor seal
- Baffle is too far from fan
- Fan wheel or back of baffle is blocked
- Thermostat is set too high
Oven Not Reaching Temperature/Taking Too Long
If the oven is taking too long to heat up or not fully reaching cooking temperatures it could be:
- Oven is out of calibration or incorrectly calibrated
- Gas pressure is too low
Gas Pizza Oven
The following troubleshooting tips are made for Montague models 13P-1, 14P-1, 15P-1, 23P-2, 24P-2, 25P-2.
Pilot Burner Goes Out
If the pilot burner goes out and is not working properly it could be one of the following problems:
- Gas has shut off
- A draft has blown the flame in the flue
- Fans or register is blowing at the oven
- Orifice is dirty and has build-up
- Thermocouple is defective or loose
- Safety pilot valve is defective
- Pilot orifice fitting is leaking fuel
- Gas pressure regulator is restricted or has plugged vent
Pilot On, Burner Not
When the burner is failing to turn on, despite the pilot light being on some issues are:
- Burner valve is turned off
- Burner orifice is unplugged
- Thermostat is not calibrated
- Thermostat set too low and flame adjustment closed
Oven Overheating
If the oven is getting too hot or the burner won’t throttle down it could be:
- Thermostat is out of calibration or malfunctioning
- Minimum flame is too high
- Thermostat has broken capillary tube
- Dirt under thermostat valve seat
