This guide contains information for KL1014 and KL771012 Kold Locker™ walk-in refrigeration systems.
Supplies
Never use abrasive pads such as steel wool or alkaline solutions like ammonia when cleaning the cooler as these can damage the unit’s finish. Instead, a simple solution of warm water and mild detergent is best.
Pre-Cleaning Procedure
Look out for spilled liquids and food particles on the cooler floor since these can make the floor slippery during both normal use and the cleaning process.
- Step 1. Turn off the unit - Use the power switch to turn off the unit.
- Step 2. Disconnect the power supply - Minimize the risk of electric shock by cutting power to the unit before proceeding.
- Step 3. Remove product from the cooler - Empty food product from the unit and either place in another unit or discard.
Clean Interior & Exterior Surfaces
Maintain the interior and exterior surfaces of the cooler at least once a month in order to ensure good sanitation.
- Step 1. Wash the outside surfaces - Clean the outside surfaces, including the door trim and gaskets, with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth. Be sure to wipe away any remaining debris and suds with a damp cloth, then dry any excess moisture with a clean cloth.
- Step 2. Clean the interior surfaces - Wash the inside surfaces, such as the walls and shelving, with warm water, mild detergent and a clean cloth.
- Step 3. Wipe the floor - In order to minimize slipping hazards, make it a point to clean up spilled liquids and food particles on the cooler floor with warm, soapy water and a clean cloth. Once the floor is clean, be sure to wipe away any excess suds and then dry any remaining moisture.
- Step 4. Neutralize odors (if present) - If you detect odors, apply a solution of warm water and baking soda on the source and let it sit for a few minutes. If the odor is strong, scrub the area and then wipe up any remaining foam, moisture or particles.
Maintain Condensing Unit & Fins
Clean the condensing unit, including the fins, at least once every 3 months so that air flow isn’t restricted.
- Step 1. Access the condensing unit - Remove the grilles or louvres in order to gain access to the condensing unit.
- Step 2. Vacuum the condensing unit - Suck up dust and dirt particles inside the condensing unit with a small vacuum.
- Step 3. Clean the fins - Use a stiff-bristle brush to loosen dust trapped within the condenser coils and then vacuum it out of the unit. Take care so as not to damage the fins.
Resuming Normal Operation
Don’t leave excess soap scum or standing water in the unit since they can lead to surface damage, shock risks and slip hazards.
- Step 1. Reconnect the power - Reestablish the electrical connection to the unit.
- Step 2. Turn on the cooler - Use the power switch to power on the unit.
- Step 3. Reload the unit - Return food product to the cooler.
- Step 4. Resume normal operation - You may now use the unit normally.
