Removing & Replacing an Anthony International Door Gasket
An aged or damaged door gasket can mean your cooler or freezer isn’t holding at normal operating temperatures, causing unsafe storage conditions for your food and beverage product. Although Anthony International door gaskets last up to 5 times longer than standard PVC gaskets, that doesn’t mean they don’t wear out or need to be replaced.
Regularly checking the gasket for cracks, fissures, and other incongruities can help prolong the life of your equipment and adhere to strict foodservice guidelines meant to keep people safe and healthy. Let’s start by removing and replacing an Anthony International door gasket for the 401 and 101 series cooler and freezer.
How to Remove & Replace an Anthony International Door Gasket
Removing and replacing an Anthony International door gasket can be done in a few simple steps that shouldn’t take more than a few minutes:
- Step 1. Remove food items from your unit – It’s always a good idea to store your food and beverage items in an alternative cooler or freezer during any maintenance procedures, as keeping the door open for extended periods can cause unsafe temperature fluctuations.
- Step 2. Turn off power – As a safety precaution, it’s always a good idea to power down your equipment before you perform any type of cleaning or maintenance.
- Step 3. Soak the new gasket in warm water – Because gaskets can develop kinks or creases after prolonged periods of storage, placing them in a tub of warm water can help restore them to their original form and make them easier to install.
- Step 4. Remove the old gasket – To remove the old gasket, start at the upper corners of the door, pulling up along the tracks.
- Step 5. Clean the gasket tracks – Before it’s time to install the new gasket, wash the door rail and cover with mild dish soap and a clean rag. Rinse with fresh water and dry.
- Step 6. Install the new gasket – Make sure the new gasket is completely dry before installing. Starting at the corners, insert the dart into the grooves, pressing down for a firm seal.
- Step 7. Test the seal – Before you restock the freezer and power on the unit, make sure the seal holds. And that’s how you remove and replace an Anthony International door gasket.
