Cleaning a Cheesemelter/Salamander
Before any cleaning, make sure that the unit is shut down and unplugged from any electrical source. Check your manufacturer’s recommended cleaning chemicals before using any on your unit.
- Step 1. Remove any removable parts - Take out any removable grills, trays or pans and dispose of any grease, crumbs or debris. Wash the parts with warm, soapy water to remove any grease or stuck on food.
- Step 2. Wipe down the interior - Using a soft cloth and warm, soapy water, clean the interior of the unit. Make sure to wipe any grills or conveyor belts clean and clear them of any stuck-on food. Do not spray or flood the interior with excess water to prevent any damage.
- Step 3. Wipe down the exterior - Using a soft cloth and warm, soapy water, clean the exterior of the unit. If your specific model allows, you can use a gentle stainless steel cleaner to wipe down the exterior.
- Step 4. Dry the interior and exterior - Make sure to thoroughly dry the interior, exterior and any parts that you previously wiped down.
- Step 5. Reinsert parts - Take the newly cleaned removable parts and reinsert them into the unit. Make sure they are all secured in place.
- Step 6. Reconnect the unit - Once all parts are back in place, you can plug your unit back into the outlet and start it back up.
Preventative Maintenance Tips
- Lubricate moving parts - Lubricate any moving parts, like valves or bearings, every month. If your commercial appliances are more frequently used then you can adjust the maintenance schedule as needed.
- Inspect electrical components - Check the wiring and electrical parts daily to ensure that they are undamaged and connected. Faulty wiring is dangerous so inspecting it on a routine basis will keep operators safe.
- Immediately wipe away spills - If food bubbles over or there are any spills, make sure to let the machine cool down and then wipe them away immediately. Staying on top of messes will ensure that they do not get caked on and stuck.
