Spaceman Ice Cream & Frozen Drink Machine Cleaning

Spaceman Ice Cream & Frozen Drink Machine Cleaning

If you want a Spaceman ice cream & frozen drink machine to serve delicious treats, you need an out-of-this-world cleaning procedure to maintain machines. Below we will walk you Spaceman ice cream & frozen drink machine cleaning, disassembly/assembly and sanitization procedures.

Disassembly, cleaning and lubrication of Spaceman parts should be done on a daily basis. Replacing wearable parts should be done every 1 to 3 months to maintain the integrity of the machine.

Disassemble Parts

Inspecting parts frequently and replacing wearable parts every 3 months will ensure the longevity of your machine.

  • Step 1. Disconnect unit from power - Ensure that the unit is unplugged and the power switch is turned to OFF.
  • Step 2. Remove torque arm - Pull up out of the torque assembly and then down out of the flat sensor arm to remove.
  • Step 3. Remove door screws - Remove the dispenser door screws.
  • Step 4. Remove assembly parts - Remove the dispenser door assembly, torque assembly and beater assembly. Set these aside for cleaning later.
  • Step 5. Remove o-ring and torque guide - Use the o-ring tool to remove the torque assembly o-ring, and then remove the torque guide.
  • Step 6. Remove scraper blades - Take out the scraper blades from the beater assembly.
  • Step 7. Remove door gasket - Use the o-ring tool again to remove the dispensing door gasket.
  • Step 8. Rotate drawer valve - Set down a towel to prevent any mess. Rotate the drawer valve until  the flat part at the top is perpendicular to the clear surface of the dispensing door .
  • Step 9. Remove ice buster - Remove the ice buster.
  • Step 10. Remove drawer valve - Twist the drawer valve while removing it from the machine.
  • Step 11. Remove draw valve o-rings - Use the o-ring tool to remove the drawer valve o-ring.
  • Step 12. Remove prime plug - Unscrew the prime plug and remove it from the dispensing door.
  • Step 13. Remove drive shaft - At the back of the cylinder, use a towel to remove the drive shaft.
  • Step 14. Separate drive shaft - Separate the drive shaft gasket from the drive shaft.
  • Step 15. Remove drip trays - Pull out the front drip tray and the internal drip tray.

Cleaning & Preventative Maintenance

Never wash your Spaceman machine parts in the dishwasher and only hand wash components for best practices.

  • Step 1. Disconnect unit from power - Ensure that the unit is unplugged and the power switch is turned to OFF. This is essential for operator safety.
  • Step 2. Clean inside cylinder - Use the large brush and cool water to clean inside the cylinder. Be thorough and ensure that you scrub the back of the cylinder and remove all product from it.
  • Step 3. Clean and dry cylinder rear - Thoroughly clean the cylinder rear with the Spaceman black brushes and dry it with a clean, dry towel.
  • Step 4. Wipe machine exterior - Gently wipe down and clean the exterior of the machine.
  • Step 5. Wash disassembled parts - Gently wash the parts previously removed.
  • Step 6. Clean gaskets and o-rings - Thoroughly and carefully clean the gaskets and o-rings, making sure to remove any excess lubricant.
  • Step 7. Inspect parts - Check the parts after cleaning to ensure that they are free of food product and clean.

Parts Assembly

Before starting, always make sure that the machine is set to OFF and not connected to a power source.

Drive Shaft

  • Step 1. Reinstall gasket - Insert the drive shaft gasket back onto the drive shaft.
  • Step 2. Lubricate gasket - Seal the gasket open space by adding Spaceman lubricant, extending it onto the drive shaft. Be sure to avoid the top square part while lubricating.
  • Step 3. Reinsert drive shaft - Install the drive shaft into the rear shell bearing at the back of the cylinder. Turn the shaft until the key engages into the socket. You will know the drive shaft is installed correctly when it can’t turn 360 degrees.

Beater & Torque

  • Step 1. Insert torque guide - Put the torque guide onto the end of the beater assembly. Don’t lubricate this part.
  • Step 2. Reinstall gasket - Insert the o-ring onto the torque assembly and coat it with Spaceman lubricant.
  • Step 3. Install torque assembly - Install the torque assembly back into the torque guide at the end of the beater assembly.
  • Step 4. Insert scraper blades - Add the scraper blades onto the beater.
  • Step 5. Place beater assembly - Insert the beater assembly back into the cylinder. Turn the assembly until it engages the drive shaft key and doesn’t turn 360 degrees.

Dispensing Door

  • Step 1. Reinstall o-rings - Place both o-rings onto the draw valve and coat it with Spaceman lubricant.
  • Step 2. Insert draw valve - Insert and rotate the draw valve 7/8th of the way into the dispensing door from the top.
  • Step 3. Turn draw valve - Turn the draw valve so the flat portion at the valve top is perpendicular to the clear face of the dispensing door.
  • Step 4. Place ice buster - Insert the ice buster through the dispensing spout at the bottom of the drawer and into the slot on the draw valve.
  • Step 5. Lock ice buster - Rotate the draw valve to lock the ice buster in place. Turn the valve until the draw handle hole is on the front.
  • Step 6. Insert draw handle - Insert the draw handle and secure it in place with a valve pin.
  • Step 7. Insert prime plug - Screw the prime plug onto the dispensing door.
  • Step 8. Place door gasket - Put the dispensing door gasket on the door and coat it with Spaceman lubricant. Place the beater guide on the dispensing door, with the flange flush with the back of the door.
  • Step 9. Install dispensing door - Align the door assembly with the torque assembly and mounting bolts. Install the dispensing door until it is flush with the machine. Don’t force the door onto the machine.
  • Step 10. Tighten screws - Tighten the door dispensing hand-screws in a cross pattern.
  • Step 11. Install torque arm - Before installing make sure that the tapered end is down. Install the torque arm up through the sensor pin hole under the overhead and then down into the torque assembly. The torque arm should now move freely back and forth.

Hopper Assembly & Trays

  • Step 1. Insert hopper agitator - For machines with a hopper agitator, coat the inside with Spaceman lubricant and insert it with the arrow pointing up.
  • Step 2. Install lids and trays - Place the hopper lid and drip trays back into the machine.

Sanitizing Process

Make sure to always use OEM Spaceman sanitizer. After sanitizing product must immediately be added to the machine.

  • Step 1. Disconnect unit from power - Ensure that the unit is unplugged and the power switch is turned to OFF.
  • Step 2. Check draw valve - Check that the draw valve is in the CLOSED position, or the left position.
  • Step 3. Mix and pour sanitizing solution - Mix a solution of 7.57 liters (2 gallons) of Spaceman sanitizer in a container. Pour this solution into the hopper.
  • Step 4. Set to WASH - Turn the power switch to the WASH setting and allow the unit to agitate for 5-10 minutes. Don’t leave it on WASH for more than 10 minutes.
  • Step 5. Scrub hopper walls - While the unit agitates, use a clean brush to scrub the hopper walls and agitator.
  • Step 6. Open draw valve - Place a bucket under the draw valve and open it to drain the machine.
  • Step 7. Turn power switch OFF - Turn the power switch back to OFF.
