How Do You Force a Speed Queen Washer to Drain?

You might find yourself in the situation where you’ll have to force a manual drain on your Speed Queen washer before you can proceed with any more troubleshooting techniques. When that happens, follow these steps:

  • Step 1. Locate the drain hose – The drain hose on your Speed Queen front loading or top loading washer is typically gray, black or white and located on the back of the machine. You’ll have to pull the washer out before you’ll be able to access it, so it might be a good idea to get some appliance floor slides so you don’t scratch up your hardwoods or linoleum.
  • Step 2. Place a bucket under the drain hose – In order to not flood your laundry room, it’s important to get a large enough bucket to catch the water. It might also prove beneficial to come armed with a few spare towels just in case the bucket overflows.
  • Step 3. Detach the drain hose – The drain hose is held in place by a couple clips. Loosen these and let the water drain into the bucket. If your bucket becomes too full, simply reattach the drain hose, empty the bucket and repeat until the washer has been fully drained.
  • Step 4. Reattach the drain hose – Once the washer has completely emptied, don’t forget to reattach the drain hose and push the washer back against the wall. And that’s how you force a Speed Queen washer to drain!
