Stainless steel gooseneck kitchen sink - T&S ChekPoint Faucet Troubleshooting

Neither customers nor the health department are very happy when bathroom and kitchen faucets are not working properly. In fact, it violates section 1915.88(e) of OSHA’s sanitation regulations. That’s why it’s extremely important to get your faucets back up and flowing as quickly as possible. Luckily, Parts Town has put together a guide on T&S ChekPoint faucet troubleshooting for the EC-3100 series models in time for your next inspection.

No Water

There’s nothing more aggravating than shoving your hands under the faucet to no watery avail. If the red LED light on the sensor is flashing or staying on, then it means it’s time to change the batteries. Here’s how you do it:

  • Step 1. Unplug the AC adaptor – If the AC adaptor is installed, go ahead and unplug it from the power outlet and control module.
  • Step 2. Unscrew the battery cover – You’ll need a phillips head screwdriver to remove the three screws securing the battery cover in place. Store the loose screws in a plastic zip lock bag so you don’t accidentally lose them while you’re troubleshooting your T&S ChekPoint faucet.
  • Step 3. Replace batteries – Your sensor faucet requires four AA alkaline batteries. Replace them now, taking care to install them in the correct + - orientation.
  • Step 4. Reinstall the battery cover – Don’t forget to screw the battery cover back on! Did that solve the problem? If not, continue reading for more T&S ChekPoint faucet troubleshooting tips.

Adjusting the Sensor Range

If this does not fix the problem, it could mean one of two things. First, the sensor range is too long and detects the sink bowl instead of your hands. Here’s how you adjust the sensor range on your T&S ChekPoint faucet:

  • Step 1. Press the on/off button – Locate the on/off button on the front of the control module. It should be on the wall near the sink. Press and hold the button for approximately 5-7 seconds or until the water turns on.
  • Step 2. Hold your hand in front of the sensor – Once the water turns off and the red LED light becomes solid, hold your hand at the desired distance in front of the sensor. (The optimal distance is about 2” from the sensor’s eye). It will blink five times and turn solid for two seconds before turning off, indicating the new setting has been saved.
    • Note: You must perform the sensor adjustment within 15 seconds of holding the power button on the control module.

Replacing the Sensor

If that still does not resolve the issue, the problem could be with the sensor itself. Call an authorized service technician to replace it.

Low Flow

If you’re waving your hand in front of the sensor eye, but only a trickle is coming out, there are a few T&S ChekPoint faucet troubleshooting tips you can try:

  • Shut-off valves are closed – Check the water shut-off valves and make sure they are fully open. These are typically located near the sink for convenience and emergencies.
  • Debris in the solenoid filter – Another culprit for a low flow rate could be debris in the solenoid filter. This needs to be cleaned or replaced by a qualified service technician.
  • Debris in the aerator or spray head – You can unscrew and replace the aerator from the tip of the faucet. If it’s covered in mineral or limescale buildup, you can descale it with some white vinegar.
    • Note: Do not place chrome pieces in vinegar, as this will ruin the glossy finish.

Turns on by Itself

If your sensor faucet is turning on and off by itself, there’s a perfectly rational explanation that has nothing to do with ghosts and everything to do with the sensor. External factors like sunlight, highly reflective sink bowls and bright lights can affect the sensor readings and cause it to falsely trigger.

However, if you’ve changed the lightbulbs and closed the blinds, and you’re still seeing phantom hand washing, you might want to try adjusting the sensor range. Refer to the section “Adjusting the Sensor” above to learn how.

Runs Continuously

When you disconnect the power supply from the faucet and the water doesn’t shut off, your mind might immediately turn to thoughts of the supernatural or certain horror movies involving dolls but don’t worry. There is one of two T&S ChekPoint faucet troubleshooting solutions that will get the water to stop running continuously:

  • Debris in the Solenoid Valve – It’s likely that debris, such as minerals or sediments naturally occurring in the water supply, has found its way into the solenoid valve and is blocking it from closing properly.
  • Faulty Control Module – If clearing out the solenoid valve doesn’t work, call an authorized service technician to come out and replace the faulty control module for you.
