Trane Furnace Troubleshooting
Not having a working furnace during winter is not an option. You need to get the furnace working again fast in order to keep your space at a comfortable temperature, even if it’s below freezing outside. When it comes to Trane furnaces, there are a few ways to troubleshoot them before calling an authorized technician.
Trane has a variety of gas and oil powered furnaces. This guide will not only walk you through Trane gas furnace troubleshooting, but also oil ones. This includes units such as the S8B1, S - Series, S8X1 and the XP80, to name a few.
Not Turning On
- Unit is not plugged in - Plug in the unit.
- Unit is turned off - Turn on the unit.
Not Heating - Blower Does Not Operate
- Thermostat is set incorrectly - Adjust the thermostat to the correct setting. Be sure to consult the operation manual for the proper setting to your specific unit.
- Circuit breaker is tripped - Reset the circuit breaker.
- Fuse is blown - Replace the fuse.
- A component of the unit is defective - Contact an authorized technician.
- Burner does not ignite - Contact an authorized technician.
- Main gas line is turned off - Contact gas provider.
- Blower door is ajar or removed - Securely close the door.
- Lockout - Turn the unit On-Off-On-Off twice within 30 seconds.
Insufficient Heating - Blower Operates Continuously
- Air filters are dirty - Follow the instructions in your model's manual to clean or replace the air filters properly.
- Supply or return registers are blocked - Ensure the return registers are open and there are no obstacles blocking off air.
No Heat - Vent Motor is Running
- Condensate drain is restricted or plugged - Contact an authorized technician.
- Venting system is restricted or plugged - Ensure the vent terminals aren’t blocked.
