Vulcan Deep Fryer Cleaning Guide

Clean fryer and fryer basket - Vulcan deep fryer cleaning

Are you excited for the end of the work day but dread the Vulcan deep fryer cleaning checklist? In this short guide, we’ll cover exterior cleaning and boil out instructions in just a few, short steps so you can find comfort in practiced routine. Perform the exterior cleaning at least once a day and interior cleaning at least once a week to keep your customers impressed, your equipment functioning and your establishment passing its health inspection.

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Tank brush
  • Soft cloths
  • Stainless steel cleaner
  • Water
  • Mild soap

Boil Out Instructions

You’ll need to boil out your Vulcan deep fryer at least once a week or more, depending on the state of your oil. Use caution whenever operating your fryer, as it is very hot.

  • Step 1. Drain the oil – First thing you’ll need to do is drain the oil from the tank. Remember, you’ll have to install the drain extension before opening the drain valve. Don’t forget to place a bucket for collection!
  • Step 2. Close the drain valve – Once the tank is empty, don’t forget to remove the drain extension and close the drain valve.
  • Step 3. Fill the tank with water – Get a bucket of water to fill the tank between the minimum and maximum level lines.
  • Step 4. Add boil out solid degreaser to the tank – Follow the instructions on the packaging of any boil out solid degrease and add it into the tank.
  • Step 5. Turn on the fryer – Flip the power switch on, turn the temperature knob to 200℉ and press the start button. Depending on your fryer model, the temperature might already be preprogrammed.
    • Note: Do not raise the temperature over 200℉, as this will cause the water to boil over. Remember, oil has a higher boiling point.
  • Step 6. Clean the tank – Using the tank brush, be sure to scrub down the interior of the tank, including the bottom, sides and heat exchanger tubes.
  • Step 7. Drain the cleaning solution – After you finished cleaning the tank, reattach the drain extension before draining the solution into a bucket.
  • Step 8. Fill the tank with water and vinegar – Close the drain valve again before refilling the tank with a solution of water and 1 cup vinegar to the fill lines. This step is important because the vinegar will neutralize the alkaline from the cleaner. Next, press the start and temperature button and let the solution heat up and stand for a few minutes.
  • Step 9. Drain and rinse the tank – Reinsert the drain extension before draining the vinegar into a bucket. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the tank to erase all traces of cleaning solution. Once finished, close the drain valve. And that’s how you clean a Vulcan deep fryer.

Vulcan Deep Fryer Cleaning

You should clean your Vulcan deep fryer at least once every day so grease splatters don’t become stains that age your equipment before its time. Clean the air filters at least once every three months. Below you’ll find a step-by-step cleaning procedure

  • Step 1. Wipe down the fryer’s exterior – Using a tank brush, clean cloth, warm water and mild dish soap, wipe down the fryer’s exterior at least once a day or as grease spills happen.
    • Note: Do not use chlorine, sulfate, sulfide or other harsh cleaners, as this will damage the metal.
  • Step 2. Remove any burnt-on stains – If you’ve noticed that stains have appeared between shifts, fret not. Take a self-soaping, non-metallic scouring pad and scrub gently in the direction of the grain.
    • Note: Do not use a metallic scouring pad, as this will scratch the metal.
  • Step 3. Rinse and dry the exterior – After you’ve thoroughly washed the exterior of your Vulcan fryer, rinse it with warm water. Next, take a clean cloth and make sure to thoroughly dry the metal.
  • Step 4. Polish the stainless steel – Your fryer may be clean, but for that polished look, apply a stainless steel cleaner with a waxy or oily protective barrier for a shiny, yet fingerprint- and streak-free finish.
