What Is a Hydra Rinse System & How to Use It?
Cleaning a soft serve ice cream machine can be a long and tedious job. From removing gaskets and valves to scrubbing down the hopper, cleaning an ice cream machine can take up too much time in the kitchen. That is where a Hydra Rinse system can come in handy to help get machines cleaned and sanitized, so you can finish quickly and get back to other cleaning tasks.
What is a Hydra Rinse System?
If you are unfamiliar with a Hydra Rinse system it is pretty simple: it’s a cleaning system designed to be used on soft service ice cream machines. A Hydra Rinse is an easier way to clean and sanitize ice cream machines all in one intelligent system. It gives a consistent and sanitary way to clean the machine.
How to Use a Hydra Rinse System
- Step 1. Set machine in standby - Put the machine in standby mode and wait 4-5 hours for the machine to reach over 30°F.
- Step 2. Remove and clean hopper lids - Remove the hopper lids and clean/sanitize them using the wand solution. Make sure to place them on a sanitized surface after.
- Step 3. Remove and clean feed tubes - Remove the feed tubes from the machine and place in a sanitized bin.
- Step 4. Drain product from machine - Drain all the food product from the machine into a container.
- Step 5. Fill freezer barrels and dispense solution - Fill the freezer barrels with solution and dispense it for roughly 1 minute per top hopper. Place the barrels in “Wash Mode” and allow the solution to reach the top of the mix inlet holes. Wait 2 minutes.
- Step 6. Drain freezer barrels - Drain the gray water from the freezer barrels into a container. Then take the machine out of “Wash Mode”
- Step 7. Remove caps, handles and pins - Remove the design caps, draw valve handles and pivot pins. Flush the draw valve ports with the wand.
- Step 8. Clean bottom surfaces - Place a bucket under the freezer door and wipe down all the exposed bottom surfaces.
- Step 9. Remove and flush prime plugs - Remove and flush the prime plugs with the wand, then replace them back into the machine.
- Step 10. Spray top hoppers again - Add the wand solution to the top hopper and put the machine in “Wash Mode” momentarily. Wipe down the top of the machine one more time.
- Step 11. Wet and sanitize bypass tubes - Wet the bypass tubes with the wand solution to sanitize and lubricate the tubes.
- Step 12. Install bypass tubes - Install the bypass tubes into the mix inlet holes, then put the top hopper lids back on.
- Step 13. Place drain hose in drain source - Put the drain hose in an acceptable drain source and make sure it is secure in place.
- Step 14. Wet o-rings - Wet the piston o-rings on the control module with the wand solution.
- Step 15. Wet quick connect - Wet the quick connect, on the control module or the water supply hose, with the wand solution.
- Step 16. Connect water supply - Connect the water supply to the control module.
- Step 17. Add LEXX cup to control module - Remove the cup housing from the control module and put in 1 LEXX cup into the cup housing. Reattach the cup housing.
- Step 18. Start the cycle - Press the “ONE TOUCH” button to start the cycle.
- Step 19. Place machine in “Wash Mode” - Wait about 35 seconds or when the module beeps, then place the machine in “Wash Mode”.
- Step 20. Clean and sanitize any removed components - Any parts that were previously removed can be cleaned and sanitized while you wait.
- Step 21. Power off machines - After 3.5 minutes of the cycle, pause the control module when prompted. Take the ice cream machine out of “Wash Mode” and power it down.
- Step 22. Disconnect hose drain and module - Disconnect the water supply hose, drain the machine and remove the control module from the door.
- Step 23. Disassemble and sanitize parts - Disassemble the freezer door and parts, then clean and sanitize them and all surfaces. Reassemble the parts and freezer door.
- Step 24. Reconnect and start control module - Reconnect the control module and water supply hose. Turn the ice cream machine on, then press and release the “PLAY/PAUSE” button on the control module. Put the ice cream machine back into “Wash Mode”.
- Step 25. Take machine out of “Wash Mode” - After the green light is blinking steadily, take the machine out of “Wash Mode”.
- Step 26. Drain solution - Place a container under the control module and pull either the prime plug or bypass tube from the mix inlet hole. Remove the left cup housing and drain the sanitizing solution. Reattach the housing cup once the solution is drained.
- Step 27. Remove the control module - Disengage the keeper, then remove the control module and bypass system from the machine.
Self Cleaning Mode
It is important to run the self-cleaning mode after each use. This ensures that the Hydra Rinse system is ready to use and maintained.
- Step 1. Connect water supply hose - Connect the water supply hose to the control module.
- Step 2. Enter self-cleaning mode - Press and hold both the “ONE TOUCH” and “PLAY/PAUSE” button for 5 seconds to enter self-cleaning mode.
