Whirlpool Oven Cleaning & Maintenance
The heart of your kitchen is your oven, so make sure you’re taking proper care of it with some preventative maintenance and cleaning. In our guide below we go over some essential Whirlpool oven cleaning and maintenance procedures for the interior, exterior and racks.
Cleaning the Interior
Before starting the cleaning process, make sure that your oven has fully cooled down.
- Step 1. Remove oven racks - Start by removing the oven racks and setting them aside for cleaning later. We’ill go over cleaning the oven racks in a different section of this guide.
- Step 2. Place a towel under the oven door - Place a towel on the floor under the oven door when it’s open. This will help keep your floors clean and make cleanup easier.
- Step 3. Make a baking soda paste - Make a mixture of ½ a cup of baking soda and 3 tablespoons of water.
- Step 4. Spread mixture on oven interior - Spread the baking soda mixture all over the interior of the oven using either a spoon or a brush. Make sure to cover the top, bottom, sides and door. Allow the mixture to sit for at least 20 minutes.
- Step 5. Spray the interior - Using white vinegar, spray the oven interior. Wipe away the spray and paste with a clean cloth until all of the mixture is gone.
- Step 6. Dry the interior - Use a soft cloth to thoroughly dry the interior once all of the paste has been wiped away.
Cleaning the Exterior
- Door glass - Cover the exterior glass with glass cleaner and wipe with a soft cloth. Alternatively, you can use vinegar to clean the glass as well.
- Stainless steel exterior - If your oven exterior is stainless steel, you can spray it with a stainless steel cleaner, then wipe with a soft cloth. Make sure to wipe with the grain to avoid streaks.
- Glass stovetops - Clean any porcelain or glass stovetops with a glass cleaner or mild liquid cleaner and wipe with a soft cloth or sponge.
- Metallic exterior - For metallic exterior ovens, don’t use any bleach, ammonia, rust removers or abrasive cleaners as they can damage these exteriors. Use a mild dish soap and soft cloth to wipe away any spilled food or stains.
Cleaning the Racks
- Step 1. Soak the racks - If your rack has stuck-on food or stains, start by soaking them in a mixture of hot water and mild dish soap.
- Step 2. Scrub the racks - Use a soft cloth or sponge to wipe down the racks. For racks with tougher dirt and stains, use a stiff bristled brush to scrub.
- Step 3. Rinse the racks - Thoroughly rinse the racks with warm water, making sure there’s no leftover soapy residue.
- Step 4. Dry the racks - Make sure you fully dry the racks with a clean cloth, then place them back into the oven.
Deodorizing the Oven
If general cleaning does not remove the odor of past food, then the following steps might help to remove any old food smells.
- Step 1. Prep the oven - Preheat the oven to a low temperature.
- Step 2. Prep the deodorizer - Fill a baking dish with 1 inch of water and add either a teaspoon of lemon juice, white vinegar or vanilla extract.
- Step 3. Place the dish in the oven - Place the filled dish in the oven for 1 hour, adding water if it evaporates.
- Step 4. Remove the dish pan - Once the smell is gone and the oven is deodorized, take out the pan.
