How to Do a Pitco Fryer High Limit Switch Reset

Pitco fryers are some of the best units in the foodservice industry. From time to time, the oil can get too hot and cause the fryer to stop working. Whenever the oil reaches an extremely hot and unsafe temperature, it trips the high limit switch in the fryer. While newer models are equipped with an automatic reset feature once oil cools, some require a manual reset. Below are Pitco fryer high limit switch reset procedures to follow.

Pitco Fryer High Limit Switch Reset Instructions

On most Pitco fryers, the high limit switch automatically resets after the fryer temperature cools down. To help expedite the reset process, follow these instructions:

  • Step 1. Turn off the fryer – Switch the fryer off and unplug from the wall outlet.
  • Step 2. Let the fryer cool down – Wait about 30-60 minutes for the unit to cool down. Make sure it’s cool to the touch before plugging it back in and resuming to step 3.
  • Step 3. Add fresh oil – Once the old oil is cool, remove it from the fryer and add new oil into the frypot. This additional step can help confirm whether the issue was caused by overheated oil or is tied to a faulty mechanical component in the unit.
  • Step 4. Turn on the fryer – Switch the fryer back on and let it reach operating temperature. If the fryer model has a high temperature reset button, press the button as well.
