Tips and essentials for the restaurant, foodservice and HVAC spaces in one place.

Pitco’s line of fryers can whip up all the delicious foods that make any restaurant, bar or cafeteria a go-to spot for patrons. In order for it to function, the unit needs the pilot light going strong. Some models, including select Frialators, still require the pilot light to be lit manually.

Whenever the pilot goes out, here are the steps for lighting the pilot light on a Pitco fryer. These are instructions supplied by Pitco for equipment operators to use. However, if you’re uncomfortable or unable to complete this task safely, please contact an authorized technician for any further assistance.

Millivolt SG Fryer Pilot Lighting

  • Step 1. Make sure that gas in the surrounding area dissipates. Once you’ve given enough time for gas to dissolve, open the gas supply valve handle and turn the thermostat control to “OFF.”
  • Step 2. Turn the gas valve knob (aka “the pilot knob”) to “PILOT”, then push and hold the knob for 1 minute to purge air out of the line.
  • Step 3. While holding down the knob, place a flame to the pilot light area until the pilot ignites.
  • Step 4. Once the pilot light is lit, hold the knob for about one minute before releasing.
  • Step 5. If the pilot goes out, wait about five minutes and then repeat steps 2-3.
  • Step 6. If the pilot stays lit, turn the gas valve knob (pilot knob) to “ON”, then set the thermostat control to the desired temperature.

Solstice Supreme Fryer Pilot Lighting

The Solstice Supreme fryer requires different steps to light and adjust the pilot light:

  • Step 1. Start by opening the gas supply valve.
  • Step 2. Turn the gas valve knob to the “ON” position.
  • Step 3. Turn the controller on so the main burners will light
  • Step 4. Remove the pilot adjustment screw cap
  • Step 5. Turn the pilot adjustment screw clockwise to decrease the flame or counterclockwise to increase the flame
  • Step 6. Place the pilot adjustment screw cap back on

Bonus Instructions: Turning Off the Pilot Light

If you ever need to turn the pilot light off, push your gas valve knob (pilot knob) to “PILOT.” Slightly push in and turn it to “OFF.” Then close the gas supply valve handle.
