How to Program a Manitowoc Indigo NXT Ice Machine

From restaurants and cafeterias to hotels and hospitals, Manitowoc manufactures some of the best ice machines in the foodservice industry. In addition to efficiency and quick production, the state-of-the-art Indigo NXT has programmable settings for easy operation. The following videos and procedures below show you how to program a Manitowoc Indigo NXT ice machine.
Programming Time Mode
Did you know that some regions charge more for energy consumption during specific hours of the day? This is a good reason to program what time your machine makes ice. The video and written instructions below walk you through this procedure.
- Step 1. Access the “Time Program” menu – Press the menu button on the bottom left corner. Then, select the following:
- “Energy”
- “Ice”
- “Time Program”
- Step 2. Enter the desired day and time – Once you enter the “Time Program” menu, choose the day of the week you wish to program. The touchscreen will display “OFF” and “ON” times for your machine to operate, so you can set up when the machine can turn off and on. Use the up and down arrows to set to the desired time. You also have options to have the machine run all day (“ON 24 HRS”) or stay off all day (“OFF 24 HRS”).
- Step 3. Repeat step 2 and return to home screen – Select the return arrow at the bottom of the screen to verify. Repeat this process in step 2 for other days you wish to set operation times for. After you set up desired days and times, select the “HOME” icon to return to the home screen. You also can select the return arrow at the bottom of the screen until you reach the home screen.
- Step 4. Verify status on the home screen – If the machine is in the middle of making ice, the screen will display “MAKING ICE.” If the machine is in between cycles, it will display “PROGRAM MODE ON (TIME).” If the machine is off, it will display “MACHINE OFF.”
Programming Night Off Mode
Designed specifically for hotels, Indigo NXT machines with Firmware Version 9.0 software and above have a Night Off mode that let you determine what time the machine turns off at night and back on in the morning. The video and written instructions below walk you through this procedure.
- Step 1. Verify you have the right software – On the homescreen, select the info icon (Bubble with an “I”). As stated above, the main and display software should be version 9.0 or higher. Update your software by following the Indigo NXT Firmware Upgrade video.
- Step 2. Access the “Time Program” menu – Press the menu button on the bottom left corner. Then, select the following:
- “Energy”
- “Ice”
- “Night Off Program”
- Step 3. Choose the desired time – Once you enter the “Night Off Program” menu, the touchscreen will display “OFF” and “ON” times for your machine to operate, so you can set up when the machine can turn off and on. Use the up and down arrows to set to the desired time.
- Step 4. Choose the desired days – Above the “OFF” and “ON” times, you’ll see days of the week (Monday-Sunday). Choose which days you wish to activate your desired “night off” time. An “X” will appear when you select the days. For the days you don’t select, the machine will run continuously and shut off when the bin is full.
- Step 5. Return to the home screen – After you set up desired days and times, select the “HOME” icon to return to the home screen. You also can select the return arrow at the bottom of the screen until you reach the home screen.
Programming Water Usage Settings
Indigo NXT machines let users control how much water is used for making ice. Aside from factory default settings, operators also can choose to use more water to improve clarity or conserve water through reverse osmosis. The video and written instructions below walk you through this procedure.
- Step 1. Access the “Time Program” menu – Press the menu button on the bottom left corner. Then, select the following “Energy” and “Water.”
- Step 2. Select desired water usage setting – There are three options available for water usage:
- “USE FACTORY DEFAULTS” – Machine will use the allotted amount of water to make ice.
- “USE LESS WATER WITH REVERSE OSMOSIS” – With reverse osmosis set up, this will reduce water purging by up to 20 percent.
- “USE MORE WATER TO IMPROVE CLARITY” – For water with high mineral content, this setting will enhance clarity and purge water more frequently than the previous two settings.
- Step 3. Return to the home screen – After you set up the desired water usage setting, select the “HOME” icon to return to the home screen. You also can select the return arrow at the bottom of the screen until you reach the home screen.
