Below are instructions on how to properly replace a dart door gasket. For the best results, make sure you are following your specific manufacturer's instructions and guidelines on gasket replacement.
Supplies You Need:
- Warm water & mild detergent
- Cloths
- New dart door gasket
Installation Instructions
You will want to check daily for any wear or cracking on the door gasket. This will help prevent improper interior temperatures due to a malfunctioning gasket.
- Step 1. Remove food & cold Items – Remove any food and cold items from the unit. Store them in another cooler until finished with cleaning the condenser coils.
- Step 2. Turn off power to the machine – Unplug the refrigerator, making sure to cut all power to the machine before starting any cleaning or maintenance.
- Step 3. Soften the new gasket – Take the new gasket and soak it in hot water for about 5-10 minutes. This will soften the gasket for easy installation.
- NOTE: Dry the gasket with a towel after soaking
- Step 4. Remove the old gasket – Pull the old gasket out of the door grooves
- NOTE: Some models may require you to remove the handle for removing the gasket
- Step 5. Clean the grooves – Using a warm water and mild detergent solution and a cloth, clean the grooves to remove any build up dirt and grime. Make sure they are free of any debris before moving on.
- Step 6. Locate the gasket dart – Find the dart shape bump on the back of the gasket. This is how you know which way to insert the gasket into the groove. The dart on the gasket should be going into the groove of the door for installation.
- Step 7. Insert the gasket at the top – Firmly press the gasket dart into the grooves at the top corners of the door. Press down and make sure the gasket stays in place.
- Step 8. Insert the gasket at the bottom – Firmly press the gasket dart into the grooves at the bottom corners of the door. Press down and make sure the gasket stays in place.
- Step 9. Insert the gasket into the sides – Insert the gasket dart into the sides and remaining grooves around the door. Press down the gasket, making sure every inch has been pressed into the groove.
- Step 10. Check your installation – Check again all the corners and sides to make sure the gasket has been properly installed. Close the refrigerator door and ensure that it seals properly before use.
