How to Clean a Garland Xpress Clamshell Grill
Burgers, vegetables and other food products are delicious when grilled, but can get commercial Garland grills dirty quickly. Cleaning and maintaining your clamshell grill is essential to prevent build-up from having yesterday’s burger taste like today’s panini. Below, we will guide you on how to clean a Garland Xpress clamshell grill, so you can keep it working perfectly.
A Garland Xpress clamshell grill should be cleaned between use and also at the end of every day.
Between Cooking Grill Cleaning
- Step 1. Check that grill plates are hot - Make sure that the grill plates are still hot.
- Step 2. Scrape grease from lower grill plate - Scrape the grease from the lower grill plate, making sure to go from front to back only. Do not scrape left to right.
- Step 3. Clean release material sheet - With a grill squeegee, use a downward motion to clean the release material sheet on the upper platen.
- Step 4. Move grease off of grill - Either push the grease to the rear of the grill or pull it to the front trough.
- Step 5. Clean back splash and bull nose - Clean the back splash and bull nose with a damp cloth.
Daily Garland Grill Cleaning
- Step 1. Clean top of platen - Use a narrow brush to clean the top of the platen.
- Step 2. Start CLEAN MODE - Press the CLEAN MODE key on the bottom left corner of the screen and press the checkmark to confirm.
- Step 3. Wait until grill cools - Wait until the grill screen confirms that the grill is cool and ready to clean.
- Step 4. Put on safety gear - Wear heat-resistant gloves and safety glasses before continuing.
- Step 5. Scrape lower grill - Scrape the lower grill surface with a grill scraper.
- Step 6. Squeegee top platens - Use a high temperature squeegee to squeegee the grease from the top platens.
- Step 7. Apply Stera-Sheen cleaner to grill - Add 1 oz of Stera-Sheen cleaner to the bottom grill surface. Spread the solution around the front, back and sides of the top platens with a brush or pad soaked in cleaner.
- Step 8. Squeegee off cleaner and residue - Use a squeegee to remove cleaner and excess residue from the top platens.
- Step 9. Remove sheets, clips and bars - Remove the release sheets, locking clips and bars from the grill.
- Step 10. Clean sheets, clips and bars - Clean the release sheets, locking clips and bars in a sink with warm water and mild detergent. Let the sheets air dry on a flat surface.
- Step 11. Add Stera-Sheen cleaner to grill - Add 2 oz of Stera-Sheen cleaner to the entire bottom grill surface. Spread the cleaner around and scrub with a brush.
- Step 12. Allow cleaner to sit - Let the cleaner sit on the grill for about 15-30 seconds.
- Step 13. Squeegee off cleaner - Use a squeegee to remove cleaner, starting from one side to the other. Repeat this step twice before continuing.
- Step 14. Wipe down grill - Use a clean, wet cloth to wipe down the grill.
- Step 15. Reinstall release sheets - Reinstall the release sheets back into the grill.
- Step 16. Remove and empty grease troughs - Remove and empty the grease troughs on both sides, then place them back in the grill.
- Step 17. Turn off grill and unplug - Turn off the grill and unplug the power cord.
- Step 18. Wipe down exterior - Wipe down the grill exterior with a soft cloth.
