How to Clean a Southbend Convection Oven
Baking delicious breads and more is messy work. Rather than leaving baked-on food and crumbs to pile up in the oven, give it the TLC it deserves. Dirty equipment can otherwise lead to it not working as efficiently as it should. If you’re not sure how to clean a Southbend convection oven though, you’ve come to the right place. This comprehensive guide will walk you through all the steps and supplies you need to get the unit sparkling clean and ready for a new day of cooking.
The following steps are applicable to most Southbend convection ovens including the B Series, G Series and SL Series.
Supplies
- Sponge
- Dish soap
- Water
- Flashlight
- Cleaning cloths
- Stiff brush
- Non-caustic oven cleaner
- Stainless steel cleaner
Cleaning Instructions
A Southbend convection oven should be cleaned daily.
- Step 1. Power down the unit - Turn off and unplug the unit. Then wait for it to fully cool down before beginning cleaning.
- Step 2. Uninstall racks - Remove the oven racks by sliding them out, then slide the frames by lifting them up and out from the unit.
- Step 3. Clean the racks - Wash and rinse the racks and slide frames in a sink with a sponge and dish soap. Then set them aside to air dry.
- Note: Racks and slides can also be cleaned in a dishwasher.
- Step 4. Uninstall the lining - Remove the rear lining of the oven by removing the thumbscrews.
- Step 5. Check the fan - Inspect the blower motor fan for damages or accumulated debris.
- Note: If the fan has any damages present, contact an authorized service technician.
- Step 6. Clean the fan - Wash the fan with a sponge and soapy water.
- Note: Use a stiff brush or cloth to remove debris on the fan blades as needed.
- Step 7. Rinse the fan - Rinse the blower motor fan and blades with a damp cloth and then let them fully air dry.
- Step 8. Clean the oven interior - Wash the inside of the oven with dish soap, warm water and a cloth or sponge.
- Note: Non-caustic oven cleaners can be used to remove heavy grease stains and carbon build ups.
- Step 9. Rinse the oven interior - Rinse the inside of the oven with a damp cloth and allow it to air dry.
- Step 10. Clean the control board - Rinse the control board with a damp cloth and allow it to air dry.
- Step 11. Clean the exterior - Use a soft cloth and stainless steel cleaner to clean the oven exterior.
- Step 12. Clean the liner - Wash and rinse the back oven liner in a sink with dish soap and a sponge. Then allow it to air dry.
- Step 13. Install components - Reinstall the back oven liner, thumbscrews, slide frames and racks.
- Step 14. Additional drying - After cleaning is finished, leave the oven doors open overnight so it thoroughly dries. This can also help prolong the lifespan of the door gasket.
